Should I try to be positive or continue to freak out?

Long story short, had knee pain 3 months ago (check my history if you want more details) which went away after 2 weeks rest and now is back after a few squats.

Symptoms I had in the past and have now:

pain in the knee cap and below it

some numbness especially in my left foot even when moving

New symptoms:

pain down my shins or in my calves, sometimes in my quads.

Am I going to be okay again if I take some time off from work (I have a very physical job)? I can only take the time off in 3 weeks so idk if I’m gonna make it through these weeks. Pain is not as bad as last time it I feel like it’s only gonna get worse.

I’m scared I’m gonna end up in a wheel chair this time. Either that or recover again. I’m going to the doctors soon, I’ve not been yet.

Just wanted to share my thoughts as I’m really worried 😭

SEE AN ORTHOPEDIST IMMEDIATELY!!!  Stop guessing and Googling.  See a doc and get a diagnosis!

I totally agree with the first response you received! You can't be guessing and hoping, you need a professional. Good luck!

X-rays revealed my problems which were similar to yours. Had to give up weight lifting for a time. Numbness in my foot and pain in my calf and shin. I’m 2weeks post op TKR.

    Hi Maria,

It was probably the squatting that caused you the pain I had something similar to you due to bending my knee constantly. At the time I thought it would never go away and was even looking at knee surgery as the pain was unbearable and to me anything was better than nothing.

I think its misalignment where the back of your kneecap is not gliding properly in your trochlear groove and possibly a slight cartilage softening, well thats what I had. Then because of this it leads to not walking correctly ( as you don't want to bend your knees that much), so you're putting extra effort for your ankles to work which affects your shins and your tibialis anterior muscles.

If you wait long enough ( I waited two years), you will get better. You need to just work you inner muscles in your thighs VMO, All the orthopaedic surgeons will tell you that you need to operate (even if you dont). They wanted me to operate but I didn't and after two years my knees are fine.

Try to limit your physical bending in your job, if you can get a new job that is easier on your knees do it. You don't want to be at the Dr's mercy when you are older. Everyone's bio mechanics are different and their gait is different so how can a Dr possibly know without doing a serious study on the way you walk, squat, lift, bend ect..

Try not to sit down with your legs bent for long periods as this will irritate the back of your knee as well. Anyway just thought I'd share this and hope it helps.

Thank you for this! It gave me hope. I’m tending to be positive and think that the pain will go away as it always had in the past but there’s always that voice in the back of my mind that is telling me it’s going to turn really bad. I’m curious what the doctor will say this time.. I think you’re right about the fact that I don’t bend my knees enough when I walk cause of the pain so I put too much preassure on my shins. Did the doctors want to give you a knee replacement?

I don’t do too much kneeling at work so that’s not a problem, but the pain won’t go away if I don’t rest 😢 I like my job , but I’ll probably leave soon enough.
