Shoulder blade, ribs aching

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have had constant aching beneath my shoulder blades on both sides the past few days. It's above my kidneys but below my shoulder blades so at first I thought maybe kidney infection but I have no other symptoms of that. My rib cage is also sore to touch and has been for a while. I love to work out but I have taken a couple of weeks off to see if it relieved some of my back symptoms, especially lower back. But now this? It's so uncomfortable that it's waking me up in middle of the night. Muscle relaxers are usually my answer for everything but it's not helping this time. I occasionally have a sharp pain under my ribs in the front, on both sides. Wondering if this is fibro related? It's so hard to keep up when it's always something different 😞

As you say Faith, Fibro is always throwing us a curved ball, we just never know where it will land.  At the moment, my lower back and right side near the kidney is particularly bad, whereas a few days ago, my legs were so painful I ended up in tears. It's not a problem I would wish on my worst enemy to be honest.  Hang on in there and if things don't improve soon, maybe contact your Rheumy. x

    Hello Faith,

I have had fibro for a number of years now. I was diagnosed by a doctor a couple of years ago and recently went to see a rheumatologist who confirmed this.

I seem to get an awful lot of aches around my rib area. I had one a few weeks ago on my lower left ribs, at the front, which was so bad that I thought I may have broken a rib somehow. I resisted going to the doctor about it as I have recently had a bone density scan which was fine. After a couple of weeks the pain moved around to the middle of my left side in my back, then after about another week it disappeared! So I have no idea what it was but when I get odd pains I try and give them 4-6 weeks and if they haven't gone by then then I will do something about them.

It's terribly frustrating as it seems I can't take my body seriously, the pain I had was as bad as a broken rib, it truly was, and yet it clearly wasn't one. It's a terrible thing this fibro, you just have to try and stay on an even keel.

I hope you have a better day today.

You are not alone.  I am going through the pain under the ribs due to some extreme stress and anxiety.  Having suffered so long I have learned to keep myself as stress free and emotionally calm as possible.  I am going to have the pain in my side checked by a DR but I can't be seen until July 19th.  Hopefully it is just the darn fibro and not something really serious,  If you feel really concerned it might be best for you to see your DR just to rule out something truly serious,

First, have you been diagnosed with fibromyalgia?

I was 11 years ago. Everything can hurt with fibro. Over the years I have been given many diagnosis. Some shocked me. We're you diagnosed and how long ago?

Yes I was diagnosed a year and a half ago. I went through severe anxiety when all of my symptoms started because I was terrified of what may be wrong with me. The anxiety isn't nearly as bad as it was then but I do get concerned when new symptoms begin. It's frustrating!

I know how you feel. I'm 48 now and I can't do the things I use to. I was very active. Exercise, gardening, do it yourself

Projects besides working full time. I stopped telling people all my issues, because I feel they will think I'm just trying to get attention. Or worse, they pity me. In the beginning I thought it was just joint and muscle pain. But 11 years later,

Chest pain that is not my heart. Costal chondritis. Memory problems, IBS, migraines, vertigo, etc. etc. It's funny to me now. I joke with my doc all the time. I told her that there isn't any more room in my chart for any more diagnosis. So far it's just pain. Not that it's Ok, but not deadly. Just miserable. I hope you feel better soon and just know that there are

many of us out here that understand.

The chest problems are really frightening.  I have to keep as stress free as I possibly can.  People do not "get it" unless they "got it" basically.  My family could care less about me.  I am totally alone and it is not easy to handle taking care of paying bills and maintaining a home with memory problems and the mental confusion. The Vertigo has been really scary lately.

I agree completely. I was so scared of my chest pains that I ended

up in the emergency room. Scared that I was having a heart attack.

After all the xrays, ekg's, and even a stress test, they had no idea

what it was. Even though I said that I had fibro. I went to see my

rheumatologist and he told me it was costal chondritis from fibro.

And yes, people have no idea how bad this is. Never had vertigo, but

woke up with it. Scared me to death. Falling over, feeling that the

room was crooked. And I can't believe that all these problems stem

from fibro. I have a hard time remembering things. Paying those

bills on time is an issue too. I have to set an alarm on my phone so

I will remember just about everything. I'm feeling your pain.
