Shoulder dislocation (First time)

Hey, so I fell and dislocated my shoulder 5 weeks ago I attended my local A&E where they put it back into its socket and told me the fracture clinic would be contacting me, I had to go back to work after 2 days off (just on light duties) as i'm a manager and my dept was short staffed with holidays so it wasn't until the 2nd week where the pain was getting really bad and so i found the telephone number and phoned the clinic, they informed me that they hadn't been told of my visit to A&E as someone had forgotten to refer me to their clinic, so i didn't hear anything back for a few days then i received a letter with an appointment time for the following week so it meant i wasn't seen by the doctor until 4 weeks following the reduction in A&E. Also because i wasn't seen early enough, i wasn't given a proper sling just a little foam one from A&E. which i had on for 1 week.

So I see the specialist and he said the bones looked fine after the xray i had on the night of my fall so it must be soft tissue damage so i would need physio.

This was arranged and i had my first session last week, and was told theres a possibility that it dropped a bit and is healing in the incorrect place but has given me some exercises to do until i get seen again in 2 weeks time.

The thing is although i'm on 30/500 cocodamol from my doctor they don't touch the pain, so I'm still in constant achy pain running from my shoulder to my fingers, literally feel pain in my upper arm, elbow, forearm, wrist, and fingers. it feels as though i have a constant 'dead arm' no pins and needles but a slight tingling feeling in my hand. the dr at the fc said my nerves must be ok as i have no numbess but pain is getting too much and i haven't slept through the night for 4 weeks now. as well as the aching i get sharp pains at different times without even moving my arm, and lifting it up causes immense pain directly over my shoulder, and also down the outside of my arm. it's so stiff that the physio had trouble getting it straight but she did push it quite hard and it was really painful, but its the constant aching thats keeping me awake, and bringing me down. 😦 the only thing that eases it is ice or heat packs but cant keep these on all day.

anyone ever have anything like this?

It sounds to me like you really need to get an MRI. There is no way to tell what kind of rotator cuff damage you have from an xray. From the pain you describe, if you have no bone damage you must have kind of cuff damage. I would go back to the fracture clinic and tell them you still have pain. The physio may also be able to help you if they recommend further testing on the premise that they can not provide adequate physio treatment without knowing the full extent of the damage. Good Luck!

When the shoulder dislocates usually the labrum tear, or the rotator cuff or both.

Get a MRI, and work with a PT for a while.
