Shoulder Hydrodilatation - Frozen Shoulder Injection

I want to add my experience of a procedure perfromed this afternoon called Hydroditlation. I think the correct procedure is "fluoroscopically guided hydrodilatation". I strarted having shoulder pain about 5 weeks ago. I had lost a fair amount of motion in the shoulder and the pain came and went like a toothache. Any sudden movement caused me a lot of pain.

I visited my GP in Melbourne, Australia and he arranged for the procedure at a local hospital named Casey Hospital. I was quite nervous leading up to the event as i had no idea what they were going to do. There were about 5 staff. I was dressed ina surgery gown, placed on a bed and had a "live" x-ray machine above me. The surgeon then explained the procedure and siad when it gets to uncomfrtable let him no. Thismade me alittle more nervous.

They marked an X on my shoulder then sterilised my shoulder. Then they covered my sholder in some plastic sheeting. The process took about 10 - 15minutes. And the DR said something and i asked "is that it" and he said yes. I never felt a thing. ?I was quite surprisedat the instant relief. But, i had a severe ache from my elboy to my hand that lasted maybe 15 minutes. To me this was a result of my arm dangling over the side and losing the blood flow. I may be wrong but the surgeon seemed a little puzzled and mentioned that maybe due to my size he could have give me more steroids into the shoulder. I thought...hmmm why didnt you do this at the time. The pain disappeared and 5 hours later i feel pretty good. There is a lot more movement but not 100%. I will be getting physio treatement and will monitor my progress.

    Day 2

Less than 24 hours since the procedure. I do feel better and have more rotation in my shoulder. But i can still feel a pinch at the point of my shoulder when my arm is in certain postitions. So, i went back to this video on muscle knots that build from the deltoid. This improved my rotation 10 fold. I can now buckle up my seat belt, tuck the back of my shirt in with my sore arm etc...I am constantly massaging the deltoid muscle and it is highly recommended. There is still a slight pinch but i have more confidence in recovery -  Have also been doing some stretching. I will monitor this over the next few days.

In the past i have had sciatic nerve problems and a hernated disc. The sciatica was fixed instantly when i came across a muscle, nerve and tendon specialist. This after months of pain and seeing chiros, physios, witch doctors etc...I am a huge beliver in the ladies technique. However, when the evidence is clear that the issues are structural then there is no choice but to seek medical attention.

I want to emphasise that the hydrodilation procedure was copletely pan free. I was nervous goiing into the procedure but was totally surprised how painless it was.

Hydrodilation after 5 weeks of trouble, must be the speediest in history, faster than I can remember on this discussion group. Normally it takes several months before a diagnosis of FS is possible. Only in OZ!

the word "charm" comes to mind ^^  Personally i think some of us Aussies are pussies and hate the thought of a needle/s. If only they knew how painless the procedure was.

    Day 3

hmmm i woke up a little sore. But still a lot better than i was prior to the procedure. I went to the physio and he gave me some exercises to do and did a little bit of stretching. Its the afternoon now and the shoulder feels quite good. I have a fair amount of motion and can almost get my arm back past my bum. The consensus is that this type of injury takes time. So i have to be patient and do my exercises without going overboard. I will say that massing the deltoid muscle definitely gives relief. And according to the physio i can massage this muscle all day if i want to.

      hope this helps Sandra...

I suffered what was medically described as "frozen shoulder" earlier this year. I would normally go n see a muscle nerve and specialist i know but she was away. I have had sciatic nerve problems over the years and she has fixed this in 2 minutes. But she was away and i was in a fair amount of pain. So i went to the doc who said i needed a MRI which they said i would need hydrodilatation surgery. In other words they would inject steroids into my shoulder. I thought geez this must be a serious shoulder problem. So they take me to an operating theatre, cover me in surgical plastic, make an X on my shoulder and guide the needles in by camera. Theres about 8 people involved in the process if you can believe that. (all at tax payers expense). It never hurt at all. But a few days after the procedure nothing had changed. Finally my muscle nerve lady came back. I went to see and she said i had a pinched nerve in my bicep. One minute later i had about 95% movement at a cost of $70. Then all i have done is stretch my arm. So much for the medical profession. To me frozen shoulder is the same as sciatica. You pinch a nerve, it contracts and rubs on a bone and you experience the sensation that something is broken. So, you have to untwist the nerve from the tendon and continue stretching.

I had the hydrodialtion as well and it didn't work. I felt the worst pain upon inserting if that needle into my shoulder. The next day I was in worst pain. Now 7 months later I am in the worst pain ever, cannot do anything at all, and eat pain pills like candy.

      hi kathy

      .

how did it go. compared to the ache its nothing to worry about .

      .

have had both shoulders done and it gave me lots of relief at the time.

      .

from the first onset of FS. my bicep tendon has been my enemy . i even had both joints decompression surgery.

      .

just had yet another guided jab i to the bicep tendon.

      .

really been through the mill in the past 30 months.

      .
