I'm supposed to have a shoulder replacement surgery. If anyone has had that done, what can you tell me about your results?

OH YEAH! In fact I've had 3 on the same shoulder. With the first one my bone never grew and it ended up breaking. The second one my shoulder kept dislocating. OUCH! I just had surgery two weeks ago and I had a massive rotator cuff tear. He replaced the ball with a smaller one. Hopefully this one will work. I'm a very unusual case. They are usually very successful. Be prepared for a lot of physical therapy. Hopefully somebody can be home with you for the first few days. Be prepared to take your meds for a while also. My pain was completely gone after the first one until it broke. hopefully yours will be as well. Use ice for at least the first week and be prepared for a lot of PT and you’ll be fine .

So sorry you've had so many problems with your shoulder. Wow, hope I have better luck. Thanks for the information. My surgery will be on my dominate arm, I'm wondering how long before I can drive?

I'm not really sure how long until you can drive as mine is my non dominant one. I would guess two or three months, but check with the doctor.

yes i had a total shoulder replacement when i was 22. my advice is don't do it. if you think its bad now go ahead and have that done then you will know what real pain is. then they dont give you jack st for managing your pain because we live in America and have doctors that are too scared to look and listen to the problems people have and instead of treating them with what the patient knows or would work best for them they write st like tramadol. its all about money. i did physical therapy for 13 months afterwards. your not going to gain no ROM. and the pain will not yet to have even began if you think it hurts now. they'd have to put a loaded gun to my head before i ever let somebody touch my shoulder again.

It sounds like you had a really bad experience, as did I, but we are the exception not the rule. I went to physical therapy yesterday and had almost full range of motion when they passively moved me. most people are pleasantly surprised and happy with their surgery which I found by googling.

I've been reading the same thing Jenny. May be a mute point for me however. After going through all the physical examines and putting out $575 out of pocket money for a metal test to find out if I am allergic to the metals to be used, they tell me my A1C is higher than the Doctor will accept for surgery. May not get my shoulder fixed after all. I don't know if I should be disappointed or think I've dodged a bullet.
