Shoulder labrum tear. Is surgery the best option?

Posted , 3 users are following.

Morning, I recently had an injury to my left shoulder. An mri and exam was performed, and I was told that I had a labral tear. That was basically all the information I received. I am just trying to gather more info to decide what my best option is.

How severe is the tear based on the mri?

Is surgery the best option in order to resolve?

Did you discuss this in depth with your Dr? All I know, is my Dr is a specialist with knees and shoulders. I didn't even need an MRI. He knew just by testing me and me showing where the pain was exactly what was wrong! That area...the rotator, like the meniscus, doesn't heal. It may get a little better with exercises, but eventually you will need to have it repaired. I didn't, and I tore mine 10 years ago. Then I was pulling myself out of a boat, and I tore it worse. 95%! I now have anchors holding it together. My advice, if your Dr didn't talk to you in depth about what the options are...get another opinion. If he doesn't even know if you need surgery, don't let him cut u open! Find someone that specializes in this.
