shoulder neck injury

Hi i have this shoulder and neck pain caused from a exercise a year plus ago. Since then i will have neck/shoulder pain that leads to headache if i over-use my muscles. A month ago, it worsen after a massage, now it seems to trigger more easily.

So what do i do?

Should I rest for months? or should i work-out and specifically strengthen those neck and shoulder muscles because they are too weak?

Choo...have you ever had this properly diagnosed by a doctor? Before looking for a cure you need to know exactly what is going on.It may not be a muscle problem at all and possibly a nerve problem. Do get a proper diagnosis.

Yes i already been to a doctor and a xray. Nothing wrong with my bones.

The doctor told me to find a specialist but i want to try self-help first. Assuming that this is a muscle problem, should i rest or strengthen those muscles is something i want to know to help myself.

      thanks

Updated: Since i cant edit my thread, i must update that my pain is not in the shoulder but in the traps area near the neck and chest.

As this has worsened and the original injury was a year ago I think you should go back to your doctor or find a physiotherapist who specialises in sports injuries. You need more specialist advice ...I am concerned that you may have a nerve problem, which wont show up on xRay.
