Shrinking

Hi All, just wanted to confirm, that shrinkage is normal, I am not talking about the inner labia etc, I am talking about when you sit down in your trousers, everything feels flat now, like there is no tone left in it, i have a huge split in my outer labia now when i for instance sit on the toilet, it feels like there is nothing there anymore.  my GP has given me hormone pessaries which he says will really help, is this normal?  apart from that I am beginning to cope, with help from you lovely ladies, I have saved the really positive comments and re read them when I am down.

Thank you so much xxx

Hi Jane , when I asked the doc about the shrinking clitoris  he said vagifem vaginal tabs that you insert would help , I’m onto the 2x a week now for six months not doing much so far . I thought that they would prescribe something that you rub on but they never suggested anything 🤨

Hi jane, I also had vagifem pessairies but did nothing to help.

I found to keep moisturising but have had a problem with the top of my legs getting sore to always moist 😬

I was using vagifem for the last 2 years and decided to stop to see what happened.....nothing happened, no changes to my LS so I am glad to take one less thing that was not needed!

Jane, are you post menopause? I think some atrophy can be part of the menopause and that could look like shrinkage. 6 years ago, before my LS diagnosis, I was prescribed oestrogen pessaries and then cream for changes on my cervix which had atrophied, and am still using it 3 times a week. I prefer the cream because you can spread it as well as using the applicator for internal application. I believe it has helped my vulval skin and plumped it up which feels more normal but it took a long time to change as the oestrogen dosage is so low. I started with steroid treatment for LS end of last year and it has helped unfuse areas, but I am convinced the oestrogen helps counteract the thinning that you get with steroid use if you are post menopause. I also moisturize all the time and use borax.

If I were you, I would continue with the hormone pessaries, you may see results in time.  Good luck.

Don the quote me but I think you get oestrogen cream for the outside bits different to vagifem, can’t think of the brand names off hand.  I’m on the menopause forum and ladies use vagifem up and a low dose oestrogen cream for the outer parts

Hi Jane, yes, when I look at my undercarriage I imagine it to be like a young girls, of say, ten years of age.  Everything has shrunk and is reduced and flat.  With regard to that cut on your outer labia have you had that looked at? How long have you had that and what routine are you doing regularly to try to get rid of it.

Hi sorry just my language , what I meant is when I sit on the toilet my outer lab is just hang open like a huge split in the curtains , they seem to have no substance to them anymore, when I sit down in my trousers now I have a baggy part where it’s all flat . I am past the menopause so hoping some of it is that and also hoping the pessaries will help a bit xxxx

      Hi Jane,

i got told by the clinic that I go to for yearly L S checks that the minora flattens through lack of oestrogen.  Mine have disappeared in that it has lost its ridges and shape and I got told everyone is different and to not worry.  Of course we do though, just to reassure you.  I’m post meno by seven years now.  Moisturising helps a lot as well. X

Thanks Sue, what do you moisturise with xx

I tried coconut oil at first but I think my skin didn’t like it so I saw in a magazine an advert for Yes Moisturiser the one in the white tube not the Yes lubricant and touch wood I haven’t had a reaction in over two years now.  It hasn’t got oestrogen in it but is natural with no fillers in it, it doesn’t come with an applicator, I just put it on the outside skin after a shower.

Hi Sue, I also use the oil based Yes products, brilliant.  I have recently made up a little pot with that and some borax and it feels really good. I apply it morning and night.

Hey Jane, happy the moral is better... Everything is easier together .... to answer your question I kinda notice that outer labias are less voluminous. And when I open up my legs at toilet seems flatter than before . But im not sure if it’s because of LS or just premenopause thing. The genitalia changes anyways threw life.... . Hugs xx

It’s nice to be able to chat on here about these changes.  I wish I knew that things change down there years ago,I think my Mam as a bit too embarrassed to tell me anything in those days.  Thankfully, I’ve passed this information on in my family so they are aware about L S and the changes that and menopause brings.  X
