SIBO & raised calprotectin levels

Hi, I've just been for a small intestine bacterial over growth test. The woman said if it didn't show anything I would have to return for a lactose intolerance test. Well the test was raised so I don't need to go back. I have no idea what the readings mean but it was 58. Anyway, my small bowel barium and colonoscopy were both clear and I was told I would be discharged, despite my raised fecal calprotectin level. I now have to wait for a letter from the consultant who chooses whether i stay under her or go basically! Anyone know if I should be concerned? My pain is still there daily, I still vomit if I eat outside of what I know I can digest easily. I still have a lot of joint pain and still have diarrhea sad I just don't know what to do if I get a letter discharging me. Any advice will b appreciated Thanks x

Have you been diagnosed with Crohns? I was ill for several years before I was told I had it.  I find that smooth baby food is a help when I'm ill, it's easily digested and thankfully stays down. CRP testing will show the level of inflammation and will help with your diagnosis. If you do have Crohns you can ask to see a rheumatologist to see if you have Crohns related arthritis

Dont panic about the what ifs, wait to see what your consultant has to say. Good luck x

My consultant dosent seem to know what's happening. I've only seen her once since last August and then she said I didn't have ibs which they believed I had for years but that it pointed towards IBD. That's all I know. When the small bowel barium and colonoscopy were normal her secretary said I would b discharged. I've heard nothing from them since last year! Guess I just have to keep waiting some more. Thanks for the reply x

I was told by my GP I had IBS but after 35 yrs of having episodes where I had no control of my bowel I finally had a CT scan of the small bowel and the inflammation consistent with Crohns showed up, I have Bile Salt Malabsorption and am now managing it with Colesevelam (cholestagel) pills binders which have changed my life to as 'normal' as can be, ask for it but depending on postcode you may have to rely on repeat prescriptions from your consultant
