Sick after gallbladder removal

I had my gallbladder out a little over 5 weeks ago and have felt awful. I feel sick all day long. My stomach hurts and I’m nauseous. I have no appetite and can’t eat much and when I do eat I feel nauseous. I force myself to eat and it’s only been bananas, applesauce and toast. I tried a protein shake but it made me even sicker. I have lost 10 pounds. I feel dizzy, foggy minded, weak and fatigued. I also get sweaty and hot. I’ve been waking up in the morning feeling the worst with my heart racing and my blood pressure is high and very dizzy. It’s really getting depressing to be like this all day and every day. They’ve looked at everything they can GI and everything is ok. Has anyone else experienced this after having their gallbladder out?

Did they Ct scan you for possible stones stuck in your ducts. After my surgery I felt ok. After a few months fell ill again. Rushed me to ER and ran a ct in me found I had a dilated duct with a stone lodged there. I had another surgery to remove it. After 5 months I'm feel so much better. No more nausea or I'll. Ask for that. They could have missed it.

Hi Johnette, I experienced, I had feelings of nausea for a long time and still can get this if I eat the wrong foods. It will be two months tomorrow for me since my gallbladder operation. I eat low fat dry biscuits to help with the nausea and ginger biscuits anything with ginger is great for feeling nauseous. I do get very warm and then cold but I’ve put this down to my hormones which play me up any way.
It’s difficult to eat I know but you need to try anything you can eat no matter how small the portions it made me feel better. You will feel weak and dizzy when your calories intake is low from lack of foods and loose lots of weight. I’ve lost four stones, myself.
I heard on one post about Gallbladder operation it takes 6 months for the body to adjust after the surgery. Which I guess is common sense. But if in doubt make sure you check in with your doctor. Good luck 😉 so glad we have the forum to help each other god knows there should be more support after this surgery it upsets me to hear so many people suffering and not getting any advice. It can be scary to go through and feel your on your own going through this but your not alone. Joanne

Hi mainly felt sickly in the mornings but it could happen in the day as well. Not feeling great this weekend think it’s because I’ve eaten a small amount of mayonnaise, live and learn. Especially as I’ve not eaten mayo in over a year. I do get aches and pains where the gallbladder used to be. Only if I physically over do things eg housework over stretching etc.
I take codine and paracetamol still if I get too many aches and pains but managed to keep this to once a day.
It’s actutally two months today I had my operation. I guess I must be an old wreck 😂 lol I always try and see the lighter side of this to keep positive. I know when I’ve eaten the wrong food it makes me feel sick and very tired. But that could just be me. I will keep you posted I am seeing the doctor next week so will let them know how I’m doing, generally and advise from the dietician as well. Take care Joanne

Hi Johnette, so sorry to hear what a rough time your having, it’s not easy I know just talking to others on here. It does get easier I promise! I’m only two weeks ahead of you. The whole process prior to the operation was very difficult as I’m sure you know yourself! But after the operation know one tells you what you can eat nothing!! If the sickness persists you can get anti sickness medication from your doctor! Saying that I got the tablets and then never took them. The sickness feeling wore off the more I acre small meals porridge, which I had tonight! Jacket potatoes adding foods low fat, salad chicken rice, jelly I love 💖 light on the stomach. Don’t eat too much bread that bloats me up and cream kills me lol! I accidentally had cream in s take out coffee when I found out this caused me a lot of discomfort. Try anything with ginger in to help the sickly feeling.
I do really empathise with you. Some people bounce straight back I guess it’s all individual, I’m happy for those that do. But for us I feel it just takes a bit longer. It could certainly be six months to a year. But see your doctor about the sickness feeling it’s not pleasant and the lack of foods will make you feel weak and no energy and tired. It’s a vicious circle! Make sure you see the doctor this week. I’m hopeful that we will all be well soon and look back on this and be able to help others. When your feeling better look at the Rosemary Conley diet plan this lady wrote this life plan for healthy eating after emergency gallbladder removal in the 1980 she’s 71 now looks 41 she’s inspirational I’m going to join thr app and live on the healthy foods and the plan is fantastic! Alwaycheck with your Doctor before doing anything though. As were all different in what we can eat and do. Hope this has helped you😀remember your not alone keep me posted take care Joanne

If your not eating at all this will deplete your energy and delay the healing process, by the lack of nutrition d this will also effect your psychological health. Please see your Doctor sooner than later. Message me when you need a chat. Take care Joanne
