side affects in 6 year old

my 6 year old daughter was perscribed this drug to help her with abdominal migraine. after taking this for 6 months i stopped giving it to her, things were ok at first then after about 2 weeks she became very anxious, agraphobic, unable to eat or even drink water in the morning, could not brush her teeth, severe stomach cramps, and could not stand any kind of smells. when seeked advice from the hospital doctor that she saw, i was told she needs to be weaned of the medication, i strongly advise against this medication, as i have had to start the medication again as she is so ill, so that i can start to wean her from this.

I suffer with migraines, not abdominal though. I was on Pizotifen for a year or so and just stopped them with no effects at all, I was never told I needed weening off these.

I would seek a 2nd opinion, from my experience one doctor says 1 thing and another will say something else.

Hope she is feeling better soon, cant be nice for either of you.

Hi, I'm 12 years old and I too am on pizotifen. At the moment I am on what I think is the highest amount prescribed (1.5mg) which is actually sopposed to be for adults or elderly. I have been on the tablets for almost 2 years. The side effects I think I have are things like drowsinnes, aggresion, badtempered, increased appetite, feeling sick almost 24/7, headaches, sleep disorders and a bit of depression sometimes.

Even with the pizotifen I still have migraines which start with an aura and ten minutes later turn into a head splitting migraine. I have been prescribed imigran which does lessen the time of the migraines and seems to prevent me from being sick. The migraines also cluster when I do get them and I can have 4 migraines in a week, each lasting 4 - 5 hours but they wipe me out for the rest of the day. This is despite still taking the pizotifen.

I have not had a migraine for a few weeks now but I know that when I get another it will probably be the start of a few days worth of cluster migraines. In my opinion you should try as hard as you can to not be on the tablets.

Hi Bruce, if you are still getting a cluster of migraines on these tablets, I would consider changing them, Pizotifen took away my migraines completely, I was put on these when I was suffering from a cluster of them too.

As soon as I got a mild migraine, I asked the doctor for somoething else as I couldnt live with migraines, I have been on beta blockers for 12 years, and I have had about 5 migraines within that time.

I am not sure how it stands with you being 12, but its worth asking. I have taken Atenolol and Proprananol, worth asking about, sounds like you need something that will work.

    Good Luck
