side effect unusual

dear all, i have been on this tablet for some years now and find i need to take two to even begin to take the smallest amount of pain away. Has anyone else had any of the following experiences, as i would like to know.

some days I take the tabs at night and i can feel drowsy and pain free and sleep well. Other nights I can take the same amount of tabs and it will have me wide awake mpt tired in the slightest and when i eventually do get to sleep after hours of being wide awake, i will experience very vivid and strong nightmares. to the point that i wake up sweating and very scared as if it were real and just happened. this is starting to scare me as one night taking the same tablets is very diffferent from the next time.

Help is greatly appreciated if anyone else experiences this, should i be going back to my gp? also i get incredible itchy skin after taking these tablets to the point that i feel like i could scratch all night.

cheers allie.

thankyou take care xxxx

I have had similar experiences to this - I get drowsy after my last dose, fall asleep quickly for about 1 hour, this is when I have the vivid dreams, and then seem only to doze - being aware of every hour shown on the clock.I rarely sleep for more than 2 hours at a time, but I think the pain/discomfort wakes me. The only time I got a reasonable night without the dreams/restlessness was on holiday!!!I was advised by a psychiatrist friend not to try to go straight back to sleep, make a warm drink, and read, sometimes I get up and do some stitching/knitting, which does prevent going back into the nightmare cycle. Being retired I do have the luxury of not setting an alarm so can have a lie in after a really bad night.

We recently installed a hot tub in our garden and I try to have a soak before bedtime, and it does seem that I get a better night after this. (we don't have a bath just a walk-in shower, installed when I had my accident 3 years ago, the damage to my knee prevented me getting into a conventional bath.

    Hope this is useful

i had to give in and take these tablets the doc gave me for pain in rib cage. i took 2 tablets at 6.00 and it dulled the pain a bit. but 1.00 am i woke in pain so i took 2 more. it did'nt help pain but left me wide awake very itchy from head to toe. in the morning when i go up i had a terrible headache at the front and back of my head, rib pain unbearable so i took 2 more tablets within an hour rib pain had gone but my head was still terrible i felt so shakey and weird thouht i was going to collapse by lunchtime i was vomiting. took 2 paracetamol and had a hour sleep. when i woke my head was fine and my ribs, i was still itchy though. i am going to tell my gp the next time i'm there. i won't be taking dihydrocodeine again thats for sure.
