Side effects?

I have  only been on Gabapentin for 17 days so I am hoping for some relief to the burning in my leg real soon. My doctor gave me a 30 days supply and reading the info on here appaently it takes awhile to get into your system. However since the onset of taking 300 mg per day I have had a cough and I now have what is known as burning mouth syndrome. Can anyone relate to either of these problems?  Thanks.

    Hi,

I have been on gabapentin for almost 2 years and yes it took a while for me to feel any effects, I have also had mouth problems for a long time which my GP has not put down to the effects of gabapentin, I will now research to see what, if any, problems are associated.

stick with them and try mouth wash etc to see if it makes life more bearable.

      Hi Jayive,

Thank you for responding to my post. Sorry you are having mouth problems too...I am using a mouthwash daily and sucking sugarless candy as it relieves the situation somewhat.  Could you tell me what dosage you are on with Gabapentin? Everyone seems to be on such a high dose....maybe the 300 mgs that I am on is not going to cut it. I take enough medication as it is for other problems but if increasing the dose would have a better effect then I would have to do that.

      Thanks for your encouragement.

Hi  I have been taking gabapentin 3x300 mg night and morning since august also one naproxen night and morning.I was tempted to give up on them several times but just lately I think they are starting to work I can go all day with very little pain. I am not sure which one is doing the job but who cares. I have a very dry mouth at night so I keep a glass of warter by the bed. also I am a little dizzy getting around.I can put up with that.  Ron

Hi there, Thanks for responding. I am getting more encouraged that eventually this medication will start kicking in as it did in your case after taking it from August.  My dr. said to come back in a months time - I feel I need for the dosage to be increased I`m only on 300 mg and everybody is on a lot more that are seeing results.

Appreciate you taking the time to reply.

I starting Gabapentin on 11/16/2014.  I have gone from 100mg to 1,800mg/day over the course of several weeks.  Around the second week I started coughing a lot and feeling chest pain.  Now I am coughing up green phlegm every morning!

I have since stopped taking Gabapentin. The coughing which started within 2 weeks and the phlegm and other mouth problems made this decision for me. Sorry you are having the same problem.  A lot of people do well on this medication and it relieves their pain but it is not for everyone.

      Best wishes.
