Side effects..

Hi all 😃 this may be a little random but hear gose lol.. I read a artical on the internet. And it kind of said that if you get really bad side effects on a ssri that it's a good sign that the medication is going to work for you. Dose anybody know if this is true or not? I was on citalopram for 20 weeks and it did nothing for me and had no side effects from it. That's what got me wondering.. thanks all 😃

Well "side effects" should wear off after 4/5 weeks of new SSRI or/and upping the dosage but may last about 7/8 weeks before the tablet "peaks" these side effects are the chemicals getting in your body and doing their work (in this case inhibiting serotonin which is naturally formed in the stomach mainly) this is very common but if they dont dissapear it may be your body just not getting to used to it and you may require a different tablet.

definitely not. whatever 'artical' you read is gravely misinformed.

a good medication will be barely noticable. the more side effects the worse the drug.

its nearly inevitable to get some side effects but side effects are definitely not a sign of good things to come. they usually subside within a month or two

if you can even make it through the side effects

Not sure about that, but i had scary and maybe longterm side effects due to sert. Have been moved onto effexor after finding a new doctor and after a few months most of those side effects are gone except a few.

hi ryan how are doing with the switch? I read a similar thing to that as well and just dismissed as more internet mumbo jumbo, based on my own personal experience, which is really all we can go on, when I was on citalopram I suffered 6 months of hell with side effects and they did not help me with the anxiety or depression, changed to sert and within 2 weeks felt a whole lot better with no side effects and am still making progress with minimal side effects from dose increases, so as our american friends would say go figure. hope you are doing well and this year is kind to you x

hang on in there, sertraline is well known for making you more anxious to begin with. I know its hard when you feel like that but the way you could look at it is because you are getting side effects the meds this time are doing something so I am sure it will not be long before you see some improvement, be kind to yourself and stay strong, you will get there
