Side effects of Sertraline?

Posted , 3 users are following.

I've started Sertrline tablets and I'm having some funky side effects. The palms of my hands seem to be really sensitve and tingly as well as I keep feeling shaky as if I haven't eaten for hours. I sometimes have trouble focusing but that one is a given for new medication for these sorts of things. Will they go away? Did anyone else have this? Obviously, as an Anxiety sufferer I'm thinking I'm having some bad reaction and I'm dying haha. I need some reasurrance.

Thanks guys! x

Sertraline is the most activating of the ssri antidepressants.

It is used a lot for young people who need to carry on with their studying or work.

It does not normally cause drowsiness or affect your ability to drive.

But it doesn't suit everyone and in common with ssri's it can take a month to get used to it, and you may actually feel worse the first few weeks.

I personally don't not like it because it made me wake up at about 3am in the morning and I could not get back to sleep.

I like paroxetine or fluoxetine better.

Yeah I couldn't sleep last night at all and now it's late here and although I feel tired I don't feel sleepy if that makes sense? So I'm guessing it's going to be the same tonight.

As for people studying I can see why I've been super focused on things recently it seems like a miricle. I've not felt this way for years. I'm sure if I stick it out it'll be worth it. Thank you for your comment

Hi there, I definitely had all kinds of unusual sensations when I first started taking Sertraline (I no longer take it, but not for those reasons).  I think that it takes many people a few weeks, or so, to get acclimated to the medication.  I didn't have the palm sensation, but I definitely felt shaky, tired, and unstable.  I'd say what you're describing is totally normal for someone who has just started taking Sertraline, based on my experience.  After about a month, I felt no effects whatsoever from the medication (at that point I'd only feel weird if I forgot a dose).
