Side effects using imiquimod?

I've been treating genital warts on my vulva with aldara imiquimod for 4/5 weeks. I've had little side effects. Redness of the skin, skin wearing away but just recently I have what looks like an ulcer. It started off as a red patch at first and now it's really painful and looks like an ulcer. Has anyone else had this type of side effect using this medicine?

    Hey!

Yes, I had these too. It was so painful >.< Aldara is really harsh on the skin, which is why I stopped using it.

      Thank you for replying!

I've now stopped using it myself due to this. At first I was fine. Redness but I could live with that but this red, slightly raised patch didn't seem to heal an now it looks like an ulcer . Can I ask how long it took to go away once you stopped using it?

I read that it can cause ulcer and blister type sores but my mind has gone into overdrive thinking I have herpes too or something.

I was misdiagnosed with genital warts last summer and prescribed imiquimod- burned the entirety of my vulva. The most pain I have ever been in and unfortunately almost a year later it has not healed. I have seen numerous OBGYNs and Derms and it wasn't until I saw a Vulvar Dermatologist that she put two and two together and realized my body tries to heal itself every period cycle and sheds skin. She said this can happen in people with really sensitive skin (which I do have) and she thinks it could take up to two more years for my skin to fully heal. My advice- if you have sensitive skin immediately stop using it and ask your OBGYN their opinion.

I think up to 4 weeks. Then I had them on my clitoris too. Doc said I should use Aldara. The pain was unbearable. I used Bephaten for the inflammation the cream caused.

It took about a month to heal. Use Bephaten or wound healer cream to heal the ucler

Thank you. I've been reading so many stories of people saying they got the same reaction. I thought i was doing OK only having mild side effects until this came and i couldn't imagine using the cream again now.

It's awful how many people have had a bad reaction to it.

ACV burnt me when I tried that too. I think that's why I have had this reaction as the skin was possibly still damaged when I started to apply it. I'll look for the H warts stuff I've never heard of it. Thanks.

Im not using aldara again now. My sore seems to be getting better which is good. But it's a horrible experience.

Never ever am I going near that thing again. It caused my vagina to be dry and all sorts of things.

Mine looks unrecognisable the difference that cream has made. I hope it returns to normal soon.
