Side sleeping 6 weeks post thr

Today is my 6th week post thr and I tried side sleeping when I laid down for a rest today (after a terrible night sleep the night before). It was heaven! Was careful to put pillows between my knees and turn my body not twist it. So encouraging to see this progress.

That's another good thing about the anterior procedure for hip replacement. I did not have to sleep on my back at all. I did use the pillow between my knees and almost two years later I still do that. But now it's more for my back! And on Monday, the surgeon's office told me that was my last appointment with them. I've graduated! Good luck on your continued progress!

I've been sleeping on my non operated side since about day 4. It still doesn't feel comfortable to sleep on my operated side yet at 4 weeks post op.

I want to try sleeping on operated side... but a little scared to try. I guess that will come with time. Just happy to be able to give my back some relief from all that pressure.

Hi. I didnt have a hip replacement but I did have 3 screws into my femur through the ball section. Any way, I still cant sleep on my right side as I can feel the head of the screws digging in. Im a very sound sleeper once Ive found my comfort spot, but it did take a while at least six weeks before I could sleep straight through the night.

hi thars great news. as you say shows progress. I'm 5 weeks post OP mainly sleeping on my back atm. side sleeping advice must vary from hospital to hospital as the advice pre OP we all got was that we could sleep on our operated side if we could tolerate it but definitely not on our operated side till advised otherwise. I'm in the UK -Derby and all the orthopaedic surgeons give out the same advice book so it must be hospital wide advice. interesting tho.

Well done! I remember the relief when I could sleep on my side, although I still often used to end up on my back....
