sigmoidoscopy and bowel diseases

hi
i have just had a sigmoidoscopy after having diarrohea for 5 weeks, it was unpleasant but not terrible but when he got to a certain part i experienced terrific pain which the nurse indicated was when he had the scope on the middle of my left side, this is where i have been having pain since i started with diarrohea. I have a problem with anxiety and i thought at first it was that but if i do have problems with anxiety loose bowels only last a few days, this i have had diarrohea 6to 8 times a day every day. Tried changing to a bland diet as when i am depressed i tend to binge eat of an evening and so started eating fruit thinking it was better for me, thought that may have been the cause but even leaving off fruit didn't do anything.
I am to have a ct scan next week, my husband thought i may have ulcerative colitis or crohns disease but the nurse who did the sig said it wasn't , my gp says it's too much to be an infection or irritable bowel so it looks like we are looking at bowel cancer. i am 59 not in good health(20 operations in the last 12 years hence the anxiety and depression), no history of bowel cancer in the family, although i eat good food in the day i tend to eat junk of an evening when i am depressed.
Questions: has anyone experienced acute pain in a particular spot during a sigmoidoscopy and if so was it the site of a tumour or something else (i thought maybe i had a hernia or something but don't know if that would hurt)
If it is bowel cancer by the time i have my ct scan it will be 8 weeks from start of symptoms, is that good? anyone out there with bowel cancer successfuly treated in that time space.
Also about the pain, i thought you didn't get pain with bowel cancer but i get very severe abdo pain when i need to go to the toilet, has anyone else expeienced that
thanks in advance

It's quite likely the pain we felt was as a result of them putting air into the colon to slightly inflate it to allow the camera to pass through.
I didn't experience any pain with the tumour you're right, I was checked as I'd been passing bloody mucus for a while.
Waiting a few weeks shouldn't make any difference as it's a slow growing tumour if that's what it is. Please don't assume it's cancer just be patient, worrying doesn't change an outcome and you might be worrying for nothing. I'm still here and my surgery was Dec 2010

I don't know what Dukes A is but I was Stage T3/4 N1 Mo. That is node in peripheal area. I too had keyhole and no bag and was on my feet next day. I'm still suffering with weight loss and const. though. I think keyhole is going to become the norm now if they can. Chemo didn't do much but radiotherapy did the trick for op in July. I've just finished more chemo to tidy up those that may develope later and a suspicious spot on the lung. Too small to diagnose and could be an infection. There are many people on other sites that are still living long (years) healthy lives with no reoccurance and they are my inspiration.
Take care, Daffs
Marian, Sorry didn't mean to repeat others' info. But there you are, you have very informative info already. Best Daffs

After my treatment I'm in remission. I still have a final scan and oncologist meeting to say what the treatment has done but everythings crossed.
It would make sence that you get pain in the abdo if that's where the problem is. Mine, although no pain, was left sde in the colon and started with many per day spindly stools and bleeding and since this, severe constipation. Diarrohea is the normal. Bowel Cancer is very slow growing so could have been with me for years. They say 'catch it early' don't they so 6 mos is very good.
I found the forum and Nurses on other sites very helpful, Macmillan and Beating Bowel Cancer. What questions I didn't get answered by the hosp. I did there, not only from the nurses but others on the forum who may be in my same stage or slighly advanced having been thru my stage.
I'm not sure if I've answered you questions but please do ask if you wish and I'll be happy to help.
Godbless and take care. Happy Xmas, Daffs
