Your doctor will interpret these pathology results in conjunction with the symptoms you have been reporting to your doctor that performed the sigmoidscopy. Lots of infections of the colon can cause inflammation, so you and your doctor need to rule infection out. If you are having symptoms that prevent you from functioning, you need to have your follow-up appointment ASAP. It is best if you can avoid obsessing and getting stressed out before you know anything definite, but I know that can be difficult to do. I am all for transparency with us receiving our lab results, but sometimes the information sounds so frightening, and we really need the clinical expertise of our physician to know what's going on. Please let us know, and we are here to support you.

Thank you Linda. I have a follow up appointment but not until November the 20th . Fortunately my only symptoms were blood and mucus which stopped after 2 days on pentasa enemas. I've tried to read up on the internet but end up more confused .

That's a good sign that the Pentasa seems to be successfully treated the inflammation. This medication is used for ibd, but I have no experience or knowledge of it being used for other types of colon inflammation. I have UC and used this orally when I was first diagnosed. I think it was long before they made the enemas (it was a long time ago). Is the doctor who performed the sigmoidscopy a GI specialist or your primary care physician? What specifically are you confused about (reading things on the internet can do that)?
