Signs of getting better?

Posted , 4 users are following.

So I got a wrist splint from GP a week after being diagnosed with cts, I've worn it every night and whilst doing activities that set the pins and needles off.

Since the very first night of wearing it (about a week ago) I've had no problems sleeping and have not had full blown pins and needles smile but what I do experience is like a buzzing feeling while doing things using fine motar like writing, nail painting etc. is this it getting better?

I also a really painful like a tired feeling in that fat bit below thumb. Normal?

And lastly still no change to sensation loss in thumb, tip of middle finger and inside of ring finger to the point where I'm not noticing getting burnt etc, will this improve?

Thanks for any info

Hi there Nicomarie.  I have CTS is both hands diagnosed by nerve conductivity tests. I wear two wrist splints at night to stop the nightime tingling and numbness.  My doctor (neurosurgeon) does not want me to wear them during the day. I cannot hold a hard cover book to read (use an e-reader because it's light and can hold with one hand and change hands when necessary), hold a telephone to my ear (I use earphones on my cordless and my cell) and am constantly dropping things (mostly light things and it's very annoying). This frankly has been going on for years but only now that I'm retired do I have time to look after such things. I'm scheduled to see a surgeon mid July. I would not even consider surgery except for the fact that the neurosurgeon is concerned that it may advance to a stage of permanent damage as it has steadily slowly been getting worse over the years (as measured periodically by a nerve conductivity test) and he explained once it goes beyond a certain point permanent nerve damage can occur.

I hope yours settles down smile

Hi Rena Toronto thanks for your reply.

I am really hoping that this is a sign of it settling down, it's only been 6 weeks since I noticed the first signs but felt it came on pretty quick within the first week after waking up with pins and needles in the middle of the night I got total loss of sensation which is the main bit that concerns me. I'm not so bad keeping hold of things just get a fuzzy buzzing feeling.

I hope your surgery gives you relief as I agree it would be the very final option for me to and retiring age is still 35 years off I really would hate to think of it going on that long.

Thanks. My first symptoms actually started at about 30 as well but at that time they would come and go. So hopefully that will be the case for you as well smile

Hi Rena. Sorry to hear about your carpal tunnel. Have you ever been tested for thyroid problems.? The reason I ask is that I too had CP in both hands & used to wake nightly shaking them to get feeling back. Eventually I went to my GP who did blood tests that showed I had under active thyroid & another that showed it was autoimmune in origin known as Hashimoto's disease. I'm now on a natural thyroid pill called Armour Thyroid which seems to have almost completely alleviated the numbness although I broke my wrist & since it was operated on 71/2 weeks ago I've had some numbness & tingling in that hand & it is still swollen 10 days after cast & Kwires removed . This can be a complication of surgery plus it was a complicated break which happened on holiday abroad & the arm has undergone a lot of trauma. Hope you get yours resolved . Best wishes

Hi Essexness. Thank you for your comment and for mentioning the thyroid link to your symptoms. I'm so sorry to hear about your wrist issues...I wish you as speedy and comfortable recovery as possible. How unfortunate for such a thing to happen...and on vacation to boot 😕 You deserve a double holiday down the line when you are back to yourswf. 😃
