Silent Hip replacement

Hi, newbie here!!

I had a silent hip replacemnt on my right side in 2009 aged 30, after suffering with pain for a few years, was told it was oesteoarthitis and had a hip athroscopy in the Feb 2009, had a large labral tear that couldnt be fixed, so had the silent hip replacement in the November same year.  I was told I would probably need left side doing in future.  Was left with half an inch leg length discrepancy, which i didnt think affected me after returning to full active lifestyle approx 6 mths after replacement (gym and netball) and even had my second pregnancy and birth no problems, started having more and more back problems last year so was referred to podiatry and given insoles.  also referred to physio as getting more and more pain in my left hip and walking with a limp again.  Currently waiting to see consultant to find out what is going on with left side.

Just wondered if anyone has had silent hip as i beleive its still not that common?

Thanks

Louise

I have no idea what that is! Does the surgeon and medical team not speak during the operation.

Lol, very funny!  It is a smaller joint used for youn ger more active people!  Allows for more revisions in later life hopefully!

I had to look it up! It is supposed to be easier to do revision with, but it's so uncommon there doesn't appear to be much evidence. Maybe it's uncommon use is down to being another of Depuy' s new products. They are still settling the claims from their last bright idea! Hopefully this isn't another of them, and it will do what it was intended to do without any surprises.

It's intended for younger people, so perhaps some of our younger members will have experience of it. I'm definitely over the hill!

Hi, I didn't have a silent replacement but did have my first at 30 and have since had two revisions due to the implants failing. I'm relieved to hear you had a safe pregnancy, I'm currently in first trimester and have really worried about the impact it could have on my hip.

How the left side is ok and physio works it's magic for you

Oh wow, you poor thing?! What led you to having yours done at such a young age?

Good luck with your pregnancy xxx

Congratulations Tech - what lovely news on the forum. I would imagine you will be fine, although may want to consider more carefully options for giving birth when the moment comes. I am sure your midwife will look after you and will be sure to care for your hip, there are lots of ways to bring a baby into the world with no pressure on your hips.

Will you post on here as you go, I am sure many younger hipsters will be interested in your progress (and old ones too!!!) well done you - and enjoy your first pregnancy! x

Hi there.Have never heard the term "silent hip replacement" .How does it differ from a regular hip replacement ?

The joint they put in is much smaller so less bone is affected in the procedure so there is more left for future revisions
