Silly Question Please

Morning all,

I went for an overnight sleep study at the beginning of the month and the letter from the hospital said a consultation about it could take upto two weeks - fair enough.

Two and a half weeks later I called the hospital because I hadn't heard anything and she said they are only consulting on sleep studys conducted in May!!!!

I was a bit annoyed because if I do have aponea I was hoping I would be able to mention this at my f2f on Monday.

Anyway, I have just noticed that my discharge sheet says Diagnosis: OSAHS - Now for the silly question redface Does this mean that I do have an aponea - I know what diagnosis means, but I don't want to tell the assessor I have it if it doesn't mean the same on that sheet.

Does that make sense?

Thanks guys x

Isn't it all confusing and bloody hard work Erykah.  I sympathise.  As you're probably aware OSAHS is their abbreviation for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea / Hypopnoea Syndrome. This means they have diagnosed you as having a condition whereby the upper airways collapse intermittently and repeatedly during sleep. This can vary between an apnoea (no airflow through the airways) and a hypopnoea (a reduction of airflow through the airways).

I'm obviously not a medico and don't have any extensive knowledge on the matter, but in my personal opinion, that written diagnosis should be sufficient to present at your F2F as a further debilitating condition to be taken into consideration.  The fact that you have been referred for a further consultation, even if that is delayed beyond what they originally said, can also be mentioned to add weight.  Whilst none of us want to be diagnosed with any further or more serious on a personal basis, we all know from experience that every little thing needs to be 'bigged up' when it comes to getting fair treatment and entitlements.  No use being modest in these cases, remember - 'the squeaky hinge gets oiled', ie shout loud and hard about how much you are afflicted and affected and use every bit of ammunition you can.  Good luck hon. xx

      Thank you Loxie.

I thought it did mean that but my mind is so confused lately that I kind of talked myself out of it - plus the support worker who was coming with me has just pulled out due to staff sicknesses so my support and ride for Monday has gone - so the old overthinking everything kicked in and I think I convinced myself that everything will now start going wrong Aaaaaarrrrggghhh.

But after I started this thread my daughter called to chat and said that she could come with me on Monday as she is off next week (which I totally forgot) and then seeing your message has chirped me up even more lol, Yyyaaaaaaaayyyyyyy

Anyway, thanks again and for the good luck. Have a good (although wet) afternoon x

every cloud has a silver lining eh.  Glad your daughter can be with you, that will be much more reassuring.

Even the rain isnt all bad - I was dreading having to water the garden later - I have to do it with watering cans as theres no way to get a hose out those and its hard work at the best of times but I'm hurting at present and really was dreading it.  The rain has done it for me smile gotta try to see the bright side eh. xxx big hugs

Thank you so much erykah.  I may not have to water the garden, but I'll probably have to use the watering cans to bail out what has now in a few hours become a swimming pool lol.  Our crazy UK weather eh.  I'm off to Marrakech next week - mixed feelings - I know it'll be a challenge and will probably get very worn down and tired by it all, especially the flights and journey there and back but I'm so looking forward to lots of sun and hot dry weather which does wonders for my arthritis and not having to cook or clean for a whole five days is beginning to sound like bliss smile  It's my 60th birthday while I'm there and I gotta be honest, not at all happy about that milestone - only good thing is by the time I get back I'll be eligible for free prescriptions, he he he.

Oh wow, happy birthday for next week (I will probably forget if I don't say it now )

You must let me know what Marrakech is like, have wanted to go there.

Sorry to hear your garden is now a lido, it's been very miserable today hasn't it?

I was going to say don't worry about the milestone as you're only as old as you feel - but then I remembered............sad I feel about (and move like) I'm 100 years old lately, but yes free prescriptions lol

Have a wonderful time (again, in case I forget to mention it lol)

      Gentle birthday hugs xx

I was just thinking.... 'doesn't was situation all crash and burn all because a Social Worker is off sick?  Where is her replacement to fill in the gaps left by the of sick SW then..?'   Peoples lives should not be so gravely affected because a dept of SWrkers cannot be bothered to delegate a function/appointment to someone else, OR rather their manager or supervisor should be stepping up to the plate and taking on board those appointments.  They are afterall 'workers to' in a Govt roll that should not have the Cog's stop because 'one spoke in the wheel is off sick'.....

If company's can roll with their back up supervisors and managers stepping up, then why can a Gov dept's??

Sorry I have just re read my post above ....  lordy I've got a foggy brain today.   My first sentence I think was meant to say, 'why does it mean a situation is, all crash and burn, all because a Social Worker is off sick?'

Sorry about that....  I realise now my thoughts were all over the place... No I'm not drinking...hahahaha

lol Deb, the funny thing is I understood what you said as I read it and didn't even see the mistake until i read your second post and read it again lol - We must have some secret fibro language to communicate which our foggy brains can interpret

Hi Deb I quite understand were you are coming from.

I was a manager of a department (NHS) and had to cover for staff sickness, but no one did my job. I was expected to do both jobs.

So really the social worker should still have been able to attend with Erykah and someone else taken on that portion of her workload.

      Sorry ranting again.

      Take care
