Silver Lines...Finally!😊

Hi All!

I FINALLY have just two silver lines where my incisions were from my TKRs done in June and October 2015. My neighbor who had both of her knees done said EVENTUALLY my purple discoloration would go away. It finally left!😎??

To anyone who has wondered how long it takes, well...for ME, it took nearly THREE YEARS!

Have done very well since my surgeries and can say that my knee replacements were the best things I did for my health and well being.

This site has been a tremendous help that I discovered on a sleepless night two weeks following my first surgery.

Wishing all of you great success, a speedy recovery, patience, and strength as you continue along your journey toward health and happiness!!!??

Oh! Just two WEEKS until our second granddaughter's due date! Have LOVED being able to play pain-free with our first granddaughter who is two and a half. REALLY excited to meet our new little one and find out all about her! SO HAPPY I had my surgeries so I can enjoy our little ones!!!😊😊

    Congratulations!

Yes! Those scars are BADGES OF COURAGE for SURE! Just being done with the HORRENDOUS pain I had with those knees is worth ANY scars!

Mine DID seem to take their good 'ol sweet time getting to thin silver lines, though!

I'm nearly 6 months and it still looks like a worm there's only a small white section at the bottom aspect of my scar. I don't mind showing it off , quite proud that I have survived the op and the ongoing rehab that goes with it. It's nice to know that in the future it will fade X

Glad all is going well for you! Yes, rehab is like having a FULL-TIME JOB!!! I made up lots of diversions and did exercises in various places around the house and outside to keep myself from boredom. Music helped, too. Keeping a positive attitude and laughing at myself taking FOREVER to do things at first really helped, too. I never realized how much I had learned to talk to myself OUT LOUD as I was trying to complete a maneuver until my husband began saying, "What? What did you say?" Crazy times!😯😄😎

      Hi there!

Honestly, I had SO MUCH PAIN prior to surgery, any pain I had AFTER SURGERY was minimal. The first 24 hours I had a nerve block and some LOVELY meds. My leg weighed 1000 pounds and felt like a TREE TRUNK, but outside of the swelling which made any bending impossible, I felt good. My biggest issue with Knee #1 was SWELLING. It took about three months for swelling to go down and STAY down. A few weeks after THAT I had my second knee done. It went A LOT easier, which was a huge shock to me because it was my worst knee from the beginning and was the most painful for YEARS.

I tolerate a lot of pain apparently. The swelling was REALLY bothersome to me. I quit the Oxycodone at two weeks, finished my blood thinner shots then, too, then started back with my good friends IBUPROFEN. The Ibuprofen worked great to help with swelling and any residual pain I had with knees as well as helped the arthritic pain I have in many other body parts.

Try Ibuprofen. It works great for me, and there aren't any side effects like the prescription stuff. I use the liquigels which are supposed to be easier on the stomach.

Let me know if it helps you!

Well done Cheryl. It’s always good to hear positive outcomes on here.

my 1st scar has gone silvery white & can hardly be seen but the 2nd is still a lovely purple line. I keep looking at it & thinking was the 1st one still this colour at this stage? And I say to myself of course it must have been! It’s amazing how quickly & easily we forget how things were.

All the best to you & your little ones

Yes, we DO tend to forget lots of the rough stuff. I kept a journal which documented pretty much every breath I took, noted small victories and kept track of things like "first time to make it on my side" and "first time to keep ice bags on my knees longer than them falling to the floor."

Thanks so much for the nice wishes about our granddaughters!👧👶 We are the parents of two grown SONS who are now DADDIES to DAUGHTERS. It is very much fun doing the GIRL THINGS for a change!

You will do fine! Just be patient with yourself! Watch comedies, laugh at yourself, BE POSITIVE, look for even the smallest improvements each day and celebrate them!!! Do your exercises. Find different places to work on them, like leg lifts at the kitchen sink and stretches on the first step while holding on to the railing. Naps are your best friend during recovery! ( My best sleep seemed to come when I would drift off while sitting on the couch watching TV .)

I got lots of ideas from this site! I was on the site even on my day of surgery after my second knee replacement. Distractions are also your friend! Try to think of beautiful beaches, warm sand, nice breezes...etc.

      You can DO this!

      Keep in touch, OK?
