Hi I have had 3 ops for my pilonidal sinus with all the pain and suffering as mentioned above.I first reported pain in 1999.I was not tyaken seriously.I then developed the 3rd sinus hole and was bleeding.I lost my business and hjave been going mad from the pain.I was recommended to take paracetamol as pain management!!*Where do you begin with such treatment. To cut a long story short my sinus holes were laid open, but wadding was left inside me and Ibecame very unwell fever hot sweats etc.I had pungent pus reacing from the area and had to be rushed into my GP.iT WAS UNBEKNOWN TO ME THAT WADDING WS EVEN LEFT INSIDE!Then without explanation Iwas burnt with silver nitrate sticks into the wound twice weekly. The pain was beyond words-it burnt for 8 hours and incapacitated me for that day and usually the nexy(which impacted on my self employed work.)then Iwould just start to feel okish and the bleed and the whole cycle would start again. This was for 6 months.I did not understand why they did not contiune with the sea weed packing as it seemed to get better for two weeks when my senior local nurse applied it.Has anyone heard of using silver nitrate for pilonidal laying open procedures.I feel something is wrong and now after 2 further operations and the last being the definitative flap I am still unable to work more than 2 days and my lifestyle and training and fitness have plummeted.I have transferred to another hospital now in hope that they can help.

The world of medicine seems clueless and without an effective treatment or preventative treatment for this disease.
Certainly healing from the bottom up seems far more successful than stitches.

So much so that as soon as I stood up, I passed out. At least the wound clinic was a reasonably good place to do so!! :D
