Simple 5cm cyst. Admitted to hospital with severe pain but no diagnosis! Thoughts?

Hi ladies.

I have a 5.5cm simple cyst which was found 2.5 years ago. It's been fairly trouble free, I've had scans every 6 months which showed no changed.

5 days ago on Tuesday I had sudden excruciating pain and then was sick a few times. Went to A&E and was admitted. I was pretty sure it had burst, or maybe ovarian torsion. Spent 3 days in hospital on morphine and finally got an US scan yesterday (Friday). They were very busy.

The pain was constant the whole time and the morphine barely touched it. Never known pain like it.

Also yesterday I started bleeding.. I'm mid cycle.

Weirdly.. the scan showed no changes. Cyst still there, same size, no fluid and no new issues. They discharged me and I'll be booked in to have the cyst out by laparoscopy as soon as poss.

I'm confused.. has anyone else had intense pain but not be found to have a rupture or torsion?? The docs didnt really suggest any reasons. In my discharge notes it just says "ovarian cyst accident".

Still in pain now im at home, but less so than before.

Thoughts?!

The same thing happened to me before I knew I had cysts. A smaller one maybe burst, or it’s possible that it had flipped around itself. The doctors didn’t know what was wrong, only that I had a 6cm cyst, but said it was possible that maybe it had flipped around or something. It was explained to me like how big breeds of dogs such as Great Danes are at risk of having their stomachs flip around after excersise. Strange, I know. If you’re still uncomfortable I’d get a second opinion but I’d go more on the route of either a smaller cyst burst or the big one flipped.

Hmm.. same boat as me then. Frustrating eh? What happened to you after? Did you get the cyst removed?

Yes. My doctor monitored it via pelvic ultrasounds for six weeks to see if it grew/shrunk. It ended up not shrinking or growing so my gynecologist decided it was best to remove it. I had all sorts of crazy problems otherwise, I had my period for basically two whole months, and mine was resting on my bladder in such a way that I basically had to pee every hour. I had mine removed in August of last year, and I am problem free now. Don’t be afraid to speak up and don’t feel as if you have to silence yourself if you’re uncomfortable. It’s your body, you know how your “normal” is supposed to feel and if something isn’t right, say something!! Best of luck to you!
