Have you try other treatment like IDD Therapy? I heard that there is a new medical practice in London that provides that. It's non-invasive and has good results.

I have had back pain for 12 years now. I received an MRI scan and was eventually told that I had two disintegrating discs and was sent for physio. Maybe consultants talk to you now, they certainly did not then.

Over the past year, the pain in my back has now spread to my upper legs and is getting gradually worse. The best way to describe the pain is that it feels like being burned by ice.

Today is the first time I just happened to bump into a website that talks about IDD. Can anyone tell me if it is effective and if it would be possible on the NHS in Scotland.

I have had pain since 2001 when I was thrown from seat on local transport. The first Orthopaedic Dr X I saw said there was nothing wrong with me, just told me to loose weight and to wear flat shoes!!. In 2005 when I was pregnant my back locked and I couldn't move from the chair, I had to send for the doctor, It took over a week before I could walk with some ease..... Last year Dec 06 I went to docs he said I had Burstis and ignored my pain I had in my back.... said there wasnt nothing wrong in back region? I have now been on the sick for over 10 weeks now and thanks to a locum Doctor he sent me for an x-ray......the Orthopaedic Dr Y this time said my lumbar spine is straight and my lower vertbraes has thinned and could be pressing on spinal nerve. I have pain in my back, hips and around my waist, it is ice cold to touch, my legs go from burning hot tingling to my toes - pins and needles(mainly on my left side) and as I am wanting to go back to work I am trying to keep active, but to no avail mowing the garden was a major chore hands burning and seizing up!!!! I have had a M R I scan and I am waiting for the results?? People I have spoke to say it sounds like ostioarthritis???? but who knows??? I am 34 with three kids I just hope the MRI can pin point whats wrong as I am sick of being on medication, Dicloflax and Tramadol, these two seem to work but they are not working the same as when I first took them together!!!!![/

I had repair of two herniated discs. See the avitar? That's what I had inplanted. Yep, that's my spine with two plates, 4 screws per plate, one bar with 3 screws. So I guess you could say my surgeon screwed me 11 times...LOL! Anyway, he did fix the problem of the two discs, but DDD is not curable...it is a progressive disease, and now I have two bulging discs above the two previously operated. My next step is to try cortisol injection to alleviate pain from bulging discs through a pain management group of doctors.

Has anyone tried cortisol injection in the spine area and if so I'd like to hear if it helped and for how long.

Don't give up seeking pain relief. Be persistant until you find what works for your specific condition.

    Hi there Guest

When I see my doctor he doesnt say to me that its a progressive disease, he makes it out as its \" just a sore back and thats it, with my nerves causing a bit of a spasm\". and as I have narrowing in my hip space aswell he thinks it is related to my ddd in my back , causing my nerves to go into spasm causing the hip space to narrow??????

    take care

    Hi SES,

Have you ever asked your doctor? They can't asnwer questions if they are not asked. Or if you don't feel comfortable in asking, just read up on DDD. If you find any article that states it is not a progressive disease, I would sure like to read it, but in reality you will not find it. That's the truth.

    Dear S

You have two herniated discs and doctors tell you they can't operate because it has gone too far? That's rediculous of them to say that. Haven't they heard of total disc replacement???? I suggest you get another opinion from specialist who knows about total disc replacement. There is such a procedure here in USA and it works. My very own spinal surgeon has performed this procedure on those who needed it. There must be doctors in England who have done it. I know for a fact doctors all around the world communicate about findings and operative procedures. The New England Journal of Medicine is just one avenue they use.

    hi there Regina

He knows I have two degenrative discs as my orthopedic diagnosed it with the MRI which the Orthopedic said I would need to go to the Pain clinic????(he sent a letter to my surgery as I have received a copy)I have read that some doctors don't see ddd as a severe diagnosis???? I have looked at many

    http://www.back.com/causes-mechanical-degenerative.html

maybe my doc has read this one too, he just wants to relieve the pain not tell me in depth what its all about!!!!

I will look around and then print a summary out so next time I go I will give it to him!!!

    Regards

You need to write ALL your questions down and be sure not to leave his office until he answers all of them. That's what I do. On my last visit my doctor was ready to leave the room twice, but both times I said, \"Wait a minute, I have another question.\" It works.
