Single tiny gallbladder polyp cause pain?

Posted , 7 users are following.

Hi everyone! My 8 yr old is currently seeing a GI because of chronic daily stomach pain for the last 3 years on and off. Recently though it has gotten worse and is every day after she eats, sometime even waking up with pain. They did an US and the only finding was a tiny single polyp in her gallbladder, no stones. They said that would not cause symptoms like she she is having. Just curious what other people experiences have been with a polyp?

Anyone? I guess not too many people get polyps without stones.

    Hello

I'm a 39yr old female and I was diagnosed with a 5mm gallbladder polyp 3 years ago. It has since grown to 7mm and I experience a lot of upper right quadrant pain. I find it's got worse the more my polyp has grown. However my consultant tells me that polyps don't usually cause pain. I am now waiting for my gallbladder to be removed due to the size of the polyp. Hopefully this will sort me out. I'm not saying that this is the cause of your child's pain it's just my own experience.

Poor kid I hope the pain settles soon. Must be a worry for you.

Thano you for the reply. We have an appt with a surgeon coming up to discuss it. I'm assuming it will be to have a follow up us in the future. We just got results back that she has Giardia and sibo so it's likely to be that making her sick.

Hi Vanessale.  I am a 37 year old male and just discovered that I have a single small gallbladder polyp.  I went to the doctor due to pain in my lower right abdomen and right upper back after eating.  They sent me for an ultrasound and found the one polyp and no stones, which I believe is fairly common.  The polyp alone can cause symptoms similar to having gallstones, so I have been avoiding fried or greasy foods, dairy, etc.  They also may have misread the ultrasound, so sometimes other scans are necessary.  I have an appointment soon to discuss the ultrasound results with my primary care doctor.  Hope your kiddo is feeling better soon!

      Hi Jaku,

?sorry to butt in on your conversation with V but when you described your lower right abdominal pain my interest is getting the better of me! Would you say it's over your bowel area? Hope you don't mind the question - Cheers.

    Hi Vanessalee,

So sorry to hear your little one is having a tough time and hope that she is picking up now you have further information on what is wrong - Giardia is nasty and really leaves you feeling awful. Poor thing.

Glad you have got treatment in place to get her feeling better.

?With regards to polyps. Mine is 10mm so the point when the gallbladder is removed without question. I have had pain in my side, my back and under my ribs. Also acid reflux. Generally feel rundown and unwell. I don't know whether this helps in any way but yes, polyps can cause pain! I trust that your Doctors will keep an eye on her once she is over the Giardia and Sibo....

    ?Best x

      Hi ukjo

Sorry to butt in on the conversation but it's not often I come across people who have gallbladder trouble due to just a polyp. This was also my trouble and I suffered 4 years of pain and bowl symptoms which gradually got worse. I've since had my gallbladder removed ( nearly 5 weeks ago) I do still have some pain under my ribs but I'm hoping that will fade in time.

Anyway good luck with your surgery and take the time to allow yourself to heal properly afterwards.

Thank you so much for the message katie246!

Would you be up for sharing a bit on how it bothered you etc? I don't want to annoy the lady who started this query off though. But if you are happy to have an open message thing let me know and I'll try posting a new query and call it "polyp pain" so you can look out for it. I'll offer to chat privately too if that's better and you agree ( just have to look up how to do it!!)

I'd really appreciate any input you can offer. X
