Sinus or brain tumor

I have had sinusitis on and off for as long as I can remember - I had an operation to correct a deviated septem which left me in hospital for a week after it went wrong.

I've basically got used to having the on-off sinus infections which the slight headaches, eye aches, blockages and post nasal drip. But a few days ago i had been sneezing quite a bit and having an on/off ear ache and then started to get what felt like a very bad headache on top of my head and over the forehead.

The headache lasted for 4-5 days and during that time my sinuses were blocked. eyes felt pressured and pressing on forehead just above my nose hurt.

I tried a decongestant spray as tablets didn't seem to make any difference, this opened up both sides of my nose so I could breath ok and seemed to push a lot of mucus down my throat (which I guess then caused a sore throat).

The headache has eased off but the pain in the forehead above the nose and around it hasn't. I feel like I can press it and feel fluid drain away too.

The reason I worry about a brain tumor is that I started to get what can only be described as cold chills on one side of my face and then on my normal bus trip home yesterday I started to feel nausea which i never seem to get. That lasted for four hours.

I have health anxiety so none of this helps.

My first ENT surgeon wanted to correct a deviated septum, but I refused that and saw a second. I have had two operations since, not doing anything to my septum, and over all things have greatly improved.

Be wary about overusing those sprays, they can have very real rebound effects.

You do not mention it so I'll recommend that you irrigate as keeping mucous moving is key to reducing your infection and inflammation. This can be done with a saline solution several times a day when acute, I now do it once a day for maintenance, as such.

Everything that you have written seems very familiar to me when I have been in an acute or chronic phase of sinus issues. Just prior to my second surgery on my ethmoid and frontal sinuses the pain around my eyes, forehead and top of my nose was pretty bad and fairly constant.

Nausea and throat issues just went with the above for me due to post nasal drip and swallowing the rubbish that went down rather than being blown or irrigated out.

As you note that your sinus issues have been going on for a long time and you continue to suffer now go and see your doctor and get to see another specialist. CT scans and the scopes that they use will help to determine what they can offer you, if needed.

Several courses of oral antibiotics did nothing to help me, they seem pretty useless in my experience when dealing with my years of sinus issues. But still go and see you doctor.

Try and not worry, just get on with irrigation and see your doctor .

I am not a substitute for not seeing your doctor 😃

Thanks - I stopped the decongestant last night so only really used it for just over a day. I bought sterimar and used that last night and this morning. I did it to fully irrigate but for some reason after spraying, nothing came back out of my other nostril like it usually does. No idea where the saline has ended up now.

Because of my brain tumor worry - its more the nausea part, never had that before with sinusitis which is strange. I guess the decongestant may have helped cause that in part from increasing the drainage - also i wonder if maybe my ears are an issue despite there being little or no pain there anymore, i assume that may cause some nausea if its affected.

I've booked to see my doctor next week.

BYRON, I've had on off sinus issues for years. Without going into details Iwould sugest an ENT and insist on a CT scan. If your not allergic one with contrast. Good luck.
