Sinus pressure that comes and goes.

Hey guys..

I'm getting a little frustrated sad about 5 weeks ago I started getting a mild/dull headache over my left eye. I am a hypochondriac and terrified... I've been to urgent care after about 3 weeks, and they said I had a sinus infection. I took a 6 day steroid pack and penicillin and nothing helped. Went to ER and had CT scan, all clear. Went to my Dr yesterday and she said I had large knots in my neck muscles. I knew I had a tension headache. But I don't always have the pressure or congestion, it comes and goes. I've been trying to pin point when it started.

I work at a call center and look at a computer all day. My mom thinks its my eyes, my Mamaw thinks it's my sinuses, and doctors think it's anxiety. My nose randomly feels stuffed up and I have pressure above left eye. My ears will feel full randomly as well. We just bought a house and have been doing some renovations, so I thought the dust and such could have done something. But I'm kind of freaking out. It just won't go away, and the weird pressure started about 2 1/2 weeks. What is something to do for relief? I've taken alieve, sudefed, antibiotics, neti pot...

I agree with Granny, that your sinuses are infected. Dust and pollution can do that. Many times they can get reinfected or the first infection was never cured. I would try an over the counter nasal product like Fluticasone to treat the pressure which can cause this reffered dental pain. Paracetemol for pain....but using antibiotics is probably not warranted until you get back to Doctor. Most infections clear up on their own but after 14 days, it probably neeeds to be seen by a doctor. Antibiotic resistant strains are rare but nevertheless they happen. Dental pain that is not from your teeth is 99% of the time from your sinuses. It is usually a pain that you just can't really locate to any one tooth, it is reffered pain which can confuse you making you believe it is your teeth. It is horrible...been there done that. Hate it.

Is it possible to have a bad sinus infection without nasal discharge? I feel congested, and when I CAN blow my nose it's clear, even throat drainage is clear.

Very much possible, I see many coming into clinic with no stuffy nose and no discharge yet they clearly have sinus infection.

Usually when they come in they have the dental pain and that is why they came but we find they in fact have a sinus infection. You can see the fliud buildup through the ear canal. That is why they check your ears...for fluid.

No doctors have said anything about fluid behind my ears. The first NP at urgent care said my nasal passages were red and swollen.

Get checked for polyps if you haven't already! These were the same syptoms I had and my doctor plus urgent care said it was a sinus infection. It wasn't! I have been dealing with polyps for the last 3 months and still have had no help from doctors. Get checked and be on them about getting help!
