Sinus Problems worried - what to know whats normal? Eye pain horrendous!

Hi, I got a severe cold/sinus pressure in my head (traditional feeling when bend down etc) mid January this year. I left things tried decongestants etc but nothing seemed to get rid of everything. I was waking up with yellow/green mucus etc. Anyway I waited about 4 weeks and then decided to see the dr who gave my a nasal spray and drops - over a couple of weeks nothing changed. Finally the dr gave me amoxocillion, this didnt do anything or if so it was marginal and now i am on another antibiotic amox-ciclav - after 4 days I am still not "over it". The pain I suffer is by the tear duct, my eye is so painful - I really struggled to get on top of the pain? Some days it feels like things might be getting better, but then back to square one. Everyday the sensation of a tight eye gets worse throughout the day. So my anxiety is through the roof, the dr has told me to take this new antibitoic for a week - wait another week and see if it all calms down? she says everything is inflamed?

I am worried/anxious because it just wont go? I now have an awful cough in the morning with yellow mucus sometimes? less from my nose now?? I guess I keep thinking there is some improvement but the pain wont go away??

Please let me know how to help myself and is this normal for a chronic sinus infection?? wish I trusted the doctors!!!

thanks

Do you have a history of sinus issues and if so is this typical, symptom wise and duration, for you..?

Have you thought of using sinus irrigation or steam inhalation. Sinus irrigation is pretty effective and useful in helping to keep mucous moving, although somewhat limited when it comes to the ethmoid and frontal sinuses.

I have found that using inhaling steam and massaging either side of my nose, at the top, in a downward motion had been helping to give me some relief from eye pain, and frontal had pain. Then again I'm sure for another sinus operation in a week to deal with my ethmoid and frontal sinuses.

Sometimes diet, like a lot of dairy, can increase and thicken up mucous.

Did you try and use a decongestant which contains Guaifenesin, to help to thin the mucous whilst you had a cold .?

As a broad generalisation I have found oral antibiotics to be pretty much ineffective when dealing with my sinus issues.

Try and sleep with your head raised to help with drainage. Drink plenty of water to help thin the mucous. Don't snuffle up but always blow your nose.

Dealing with chronic sinus issues can be troublesome and take a long time. If this is persistent for you then ask to be referred to an ENT.

    Best wishes

I think with this level,of sinus trouble, your gp needs to send you to an ear nose and throat specialist. They are experts at dealin g with sinus problems like yours, obviously not easily treated. I am in Australia, we would just ask the doc for or a referral to a specialist. I would insist if i were you.

All these antibiotics will be wrecking the rest of your system even if they aren't helping your sinus. Make sure you're helping your good bugs in your body, especially your gut, to recover from the damage by taking probiotics capsules - and keep on taking them after you stop the antibiotics as you've had quite a hit.

Dairy produce can make sinus issues worse so stay clear of it and try to eat loads of fruit and vegetables.
