Sinus Suffering for Weeks during Pandemic

Hi all , Drew here. Its been a crazy 6-7 weeks, - crazy stressful spiral of events.

The very first week of April I started feeling congestion in my nose and right ear. Waited a few days , headed over to an urgent care center and was prescribed Amoxicillin 500mg 3x daily for 5 days.

This did nothing to relieve my symptoms. i searched and searched for an ENT that was open but everyone was closed down in Michigan due to a State of Emergency. Went to a Urgent Care center associated with a hospital and was checked out, they also assumed Sinus infection and prescribed me 7 days of Augmentin 875-125 .

I finished prescription and still was not feeling 100 percent. Again no ENT offices open , and couldnt find anyone doing Tele / virtual visits.

Broke down again after a few days. Went to an Emergency Room where no virus patients were being treated , I was scared to even go. They did a sinus xray and said no blockages, also that the previous antibiotics given were to short , and prescribed me Augmentin again, this time 10 days.

as expected nothing, still felt the same. just finished this does 7 days ago. all i was left with was a destroyed stomach and gut which made nauseas and bloated. Actually had to go to the hospital as the bloating was caused difficulty breathing and chest pain. All clear on a CT Scan of Chest and Abdomen. The Dr. couldn't believe that I was prescribed all these rounds of antibiotics despite telling each provider what I was previously taking.

He simply told me my guy flora / bacteria was destroyed and wanted me to take probiotics or foods rich in probiotics. slowly feeling better.

Finally I was able to find a ENT who was doing virtual appointments. I told the Doctor everything that I have been through, medications, etc. He prescribed my Doxycycline(Anti-Biotics) , Steroids, Singulair, Allegra , Azelastine. I asked if the office was seeing patients as i did not want to take more and more without actually knowing whats wrong.

He agreed to see me , they had strong safety protocols. Looked in my nose and notices gucky congestion and a polyp and sent me to get a CT Scan.

Here's the results.

INDICATION: Chronic ethmoidal sinusitis.

FINDINGS: A 2.2 x 1.0 cm mucus retention cyst is noted in the right sphenoid sinus. There is mild polypoidal mucosal thickening of the inferior aspect of the right maxillary sinus. Few tiny mucous retention cyst versus polyp is in noted in the left maxillary sinus. There is minimal focal mucosal thickening versus a mucous retention cyst in the right ethmoid sinus. The frontal, left ethmoid and the sphenoid sinuses are well-aerated. There is no air-fluid level in the paranasal sinuses.

The frontoethmoidal recesses are clear. There is marked narrowing of the ostiomeatal complexes. Incidental small bilateral cortical bullosa. The nasal

septum is S-shaped with deviation of the superior portion to the left and inferior portion to the right. Possible 1 cm polyp in the right nasal fossa.

The visualized orbits, brain parenchyma and mastoid air cells are unremarkable.

IMPRESSION:

  1. Paranasal sinus disease as described.
  2. Narrowing of the ostiomeatal complexes and deviated nasal septum.
  3. Suspect nasal polyp as described.

Now I scared. Have to wait to see the doctor again as appointments are tough to come by due to what offices are allowed to do. I still cant believe none of antibiotics worked. Is this possible allergy related? Due to quitting smoking ? Not sure I can do another round of antibiotics after dealing with these stomach issues.
