Sinusitis for over 2 months... how to shake it?

Hi, in early November 2017 I caught a bad case of the colds, which then turned into Sinusitis. I've been on antibiotic bouts of Curam, Clindamycin, Cloxacillin to no avail.

2 weeks ago I have done a CT scan, you can see a screenshot of here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/i8eul8b9z6emm5j/ct-scan-sinus.jpg?dl=0 - the results from hospital are:

- Inflammatory disease of the right ethmoid and both maxillary sinuses

- Bilateral accessory maxillary ostia

- Small left -sided nasal spur

However the ENT I saw after the CT Scan said my sinuses are still draining so no surgical procedure needed, and the only thing she put me on is a Nasonex nose spray 2x a day....

However the heavy / warm head, pressure behind eyes, clogged nose etc etc all still remain... will this just go away by itself? Is the nasonex spray really enough?

This has been driving me nuts and I just want to be able to get rid of it as fast as possible! Any advice hugely appreciated smile

If you look through other posts in this discussion you'll see that evening primrose oil is recommended.  1000mg capsule everyday.

I had chronic sinusitis years ago and dreaded getting a cold as it always came back.  Then I started taking evening primrose for something else but it wasn't until I read the posts about it that I realised I probably haven't had a sinus problem since I've been taking it.  I suggest it's worth trying as at least it won't do you any harm and can also help your body in other ways.

It's good that you don't need a surgical procedure as some of the posts on here about them are pretty scary.  Another natural remedy I had good results with was inhaling the steam of 2 or 3 menthol crystals dissolved in boiling water.  You can get the crystals from the chemist - and be careful not to scald your nose! Put a towel over your head and breath slowly in and out - I remember actually feeling the pressure releasing as I did it!

Thank you very much for your reply Miriam.

I've bought the Primrose oil (1300mg capsules) and have taken 2 yesterday and 1 this morning. The package instructions note it's OK to take 2 a day so experimenting with large dose to see if it makes a difference.

I've now contracted another cold so am more stuffed than usual, I'll let you know once the cold clears up if the sinus pain issues go away as well with the primrose oil.

I've been doing the steaming at least once a day for the past several weeks with Eucalyptus oil -- it does relieve the pressure for an hour or 2 ...

Another thing I'm trying now is the Xlear rinse packets in my neti pot with Xylitol -- it's a bit less icky tasting than the regular sea salt and seems to work a bit better...

Miriam, just want to check with you if you managed to resolve the sinusitis completely? Do you contribute you getting better solely to the Primrose oil?

To be honest I really could say.  As I said above, I started taking it for another issue (breast pain between periods) and have taken it ever since as I read it's really good for you.  It helps your body make one of the essential fatty acids that it needs (GLA?  Can't remember now).  Anyway, I knew if I ran out that the pain returned after a couple of weeks (it can happen even now although I'm well past menopause!) so I always take it.  It wasn't until I read the post about it for sinus problems that I realised I hadn't had any sinus issues for years, although I'd obviously had plenty of colds!

I think I also read at some point to steer clear of dairy products when I had a cold as these can increase mucous production so I generally did that as well.

Even if it doesn't help your sinus straight away I would recommend you keep taking it for, say, at least 3 months or longer.  It won't do you any harm and may help in other departments as you'll always need the GLA or whatever it is.  Just have a look at the benefits and you'll see what I mean.

      Hope this helps!

Thank you Miriam for your support for Evening Primrose Oil. I thought I might reinforce your post.

Evening Primrose Oil is an extremely effective treatment for allergy problems such as hayfever, rhinitis and sinusitis, as it desensitises the nervous system, so that the body does not react to normal irritants.

In my case I suffered from this complaint for a lifetime until I was 65 years old, until I discovered this miracle cure.

It was in fact an absolute cure for my problem, and the problem has not returned.

Evening Primrose Oil could well be the answer to your problems.

It works in about 4 hours and is effective for a further 24 hours, so one 1000 mg capsule daily is normally adequate.

It is not a drug, so it has no side affects, and it does not affect mental ability in any way.

Try it and see if it is a cure for your problems.

    Regards Ray.

      Thanks Raymond,

I've been taken the Primrose oil now daily for the past week but no visible improvement yet. The doc has now put me on another round of Antibiotics (while doing a suction of the maxillary sinuses she found discoloured mucus indicating an infection) and oral inflammatory pills as well as Xyzal. I still feel pretty much the same but maybe too early to tell.

Anyway, thank you for your recommendation and will let you know how it plays out
