Sinusitis..? In a haze...

Hi..  For the past 2 years i've had pressure/pain above my left and right top teeth, pressure behind eyes, and forehead, and I feel like I'm in a haze and not myself.. At first I thought it was a tooth problem. I had my wisdom teeth out,  but the symptoms still occur.. I had another x-ray which showed my teeth were fine. The dentist said it's probably sinusitis.. I've been taking nasal steroid spray for about 6 months.. I had a CT scan. The scan showed everything was fine. I had a little build up in the right max sinus, but ENT said it shouldn't be causing me problems..  Im baffled, and ENT are not sure what to do.. They've given me Clarithromycin anti-biotic to take for a month..  After living with this for 2 years, it is really affecting me socially.. The pressure in my face and the feeling of being in a haze (hard to describe exactly what it's like) makes it difficult for me to concentrate and interact with people... I even feel like I don't look right a lot of the time... droopy eyes and fatigued..  I hope to hear from someone with similar symptoms, because I really don't know what to do about it...

In 2013 around May my life started to change, I was a reasonably fit womn of 64 who swam and had a social life. I had what I thought was a bit of Hay fever. Never suffered with this before, so wIted for this to dissipate. It carried on through to September, having to use Antihestamines. I went abroad to Cyprus and still suffered over there. I then started to get a bit of Asthma, and needed inhalers. Now two years on I get pain over my right eyebrow and Throbbing in my cavities of my nose. I am on Fexofenidine to stop the sneezing and drip drip of my nose. I always feel stuffed up, head ache at the back of my head. It is debilitating and depressing, so always feel hazy and down, as if I am getting over a flu or some virus. I bought a book on the sinuses to try to understand the nasal cavities and sinuses. I would love to hear of a fix for this also.

      Hi Maureen

      Thanks for your reply..

Have you tried using nasal rinse? I use a sinus rinse bottle twice a day..  It's very refreshing, but I don't seem to get much discharge.. I'm very baffled that my CT scan showed sinuses to be fine.. So, now I'm not sure if it is a sinus problem, but the location of the pressure in my face would suggest sinusitis...

Hi there, I know how you feel, I have been living with symptoms since I was 25, I am now 67, scans X-Rays, Nasel sprays, antibiotics, nothing helps except Menthol Crystals, you inhale them in very hot water, can hurt at first but the relief is amazing, it can take a little while, so just relax and inhale the steam, I used to feel scared of the symptoms when I was younger because they made me feel as if I was in a different worl to everyone else, Dizzy, really out of it, I do sympathise. Hope this helps. Jo

I have facial sauna and steam inhaler, I bought this years ago, and now use the nasal adaption. You don't have to use the towels. You just put water and I add to it a few drops of menthol & eucalyptus to the water. They sell these on That well known website  (Amazon) not sure if allowed to mention. Really helps with the breathing. Yes I use a nasal salt wash also when bad. But you do need a diagnoses, go back to your doctor and find out what the problem is.

      okay, thanks Maureen

yes I really need a diagnosis..  I've been referred to many specialists for over a year now and no-body can figure out for sure what is going on...

Luckily I'm living in the UK at the moment, and their health system is free, so you don't pay for consultations or scans..

      Hi Mike

      thanks for the message..

yes very frustrating isn't it..  I haven't felt like myself for over a year and a half..  I haven't even had a proper diagnosis.. Just been passed from specialist to specialist..

Can you remember when it all started for you or anything that might have caused it?  Mine started when I flew from London to Japan. After a month in Japan, I started having a disoriented feeling and facial pain.. Then I flew to Australia and the facial pain worsened over 9 months. Then when I flew back to London, the pain as the plane was descending was unbearable!

Have you had a proper diagnosis?  What medicines/remedies have you tried?

No i have not really had any proper diagnosis, im not really from a rich family and in Ghana where everybody is living their life's and don't take people serious and not even Doctor's if you tell them what you're really feeling. This things Is soo frustrating have being taking anti biotics and they don't work. it keeps getting worse as time goes on. i really feel my head and my face Is really messing up. I'm soo confused about this because nothing seems to work and it's always there. Wish i was in the UK with u so that we could fight this together.

Sinus/Sinusitis if not caused by allergy....go to the store get a decongestant nasal spray and a steroid nasal spray, 1st spray decongestant once into each nostril wait 5mins then do a 2nd spray into each nostril.. while you are doing this take a dose of some anti-inflammatory painkillers, now wait 30 mins then use double the dose of the nasal steroid spray into each nostril, repeat this 1-3 times a day deepending how bad the sinusitis is affecting you, do this for ever how long it takes to feel normal again then drop the decongestant and carry on using the steroid spray for a few more weeks!......

Matt i have just posted my problems about chronic gum pain before reading yours. Upper gums hurting like wild. Especially when i lye down or bend forward. Have swelling up my nose and on my gums (back upper). Have nose bridge pain especially on the left side. Cheek feels swollen and my left eye. Dont know where you are but im in the UK and wondering if any type of pollution has come over to make us suffer. Usually not this bad with my sinus.

Hi everyone, like Richard I am from the UK. You can view my post on this thread from 4 months ago.

I had the gum and teeth pressure numbness and the weird facial feeling on one side that felt like it was drooping but it wasnt, if you know what i mean. My ears were also feeling slightly wet and blocked every now and again.

About 6 weeks ago I was out for dinner with some friends and their son who is 19 and when we got the coffees and I offered the son the sugar bowl he refused saying white sugar made his ears wet. Naturally we all laughed but I thought maybe he is on to something.

Anyway after some research I decided to not only cut the sugar out completely, but to also take a complex B vitamin with B12 in it and vitamin c. In addition I dont let any water get into my ears when in the shower or bath. Literally within a week nearly all the symptoms went away and now 6 weeks later I am symptom free.

I am not a DR and in no way can be sure what has happened over the past 6 weeks but it has worked for me. I wish you all the best of luck and hope you all find some resolution.
