I soak in a plastic tub that sits in the shower, water just warm, not hot. That's important because hot will aggravate the ls. Don't know about how much soda - have never used it. Will watch to see what others say.

All the best with it. You can get the symptoms under control, Catts.

you can get a sitz bath in some chemists or online and they're more comfortable. They sit on top of your loo, and you can read your book in peace for 15 mins. Look on it as time out for you! I'm not sure about how much soda, but I'd start very carefully and work up, too much could be very abrasive. I use one or two drops of tea-tree oil in mine.

I would start out with just one or two tablespoons of the bicarbonate of soda. Less is better to see if that is working for you. Only increase if you are not seeing any relief.  The tea tree oil if you have it is also good as it's anti-fungal and may help you heal a bit quicker.

    Hi Catts,

Though I have a bath at home, I also have purchased a sitz bath.  It's small and can be taken along when going away with our RV.  To test things out I have used about two table spoons in it and all felt good.

Used a basin earlier in my shower and only added one tablespoon and unfortunately no joy sad still feel the same might try again tmrw and add 2 tablespoons.

I have done this for a while and I think it is because I do this regularly that I feel more comfortable.  I also like Renee's thought regarding aloe vera.  Haven't used it yet, but the plant is growing in the windowsill.

Keep it up a couple of times a day...or more if you can...and do it for 3 or 4 days. It may take a bit for you to start healing.  Go with the 2 tablespoons next.  I also use 99% pure or higher aloe gel which can also be very soothing.  Coconut oil can help as well.  The witch hazel stings for a moment...but does hasten healing. They've used that for years after giving birth to help heal stitches from an episiotomy.  You can moisten using cotton pads instead of spray also..

Hi, Less is more. I have been using a sitzbath for a while now. As a third of a cup is enough for a whole bath I have only been using 1/2 a teaspoon of bicarb in my sitzbath and it has helped greatly. The whole point of the sitzbath is to neutralise the acidity of our urine. Bicarbonate of Soda is quite a strong cleaning agent neat so be careful with it. We don't want to aggravate things. It is used to clean fridges as it is a food product and not poisonous and can be abrasive if used as a dry powder. It can kill bacteria as well. I would start with a small amount and increase to the amount you require to calm the area. Like the steroid we use the smallest amount is the most sensible.

Thank you Chrisy for clarifying the amount. I know if it's too strong it can actually make things worse.
