Sjogrens & Tooth / Root problems

Hi,
I have Sjogrens & the roots of my 4 front bottom teeth have become exposed to the point that my teeth have loosened up & wiggle. My dentist said my mouth is so dry that it has caused this. He said the only help he can give is to remove them all & give me false teeth on the bottom or implants... I do not believe I could stand false, due to my gag reflexes. I had asked about the implants, but I have heard of problems with these... has anyone had implants that also suffers from sjogrens or extreme dry mouth? Any help would be greatly appreciated....😊

Hi, I have has SS 32 years and have lived your problem for all of these years. I have been told that false teeth are not great options in a dry mouth. Over 28 years i lost/or had removed various individual teeth and had extensive ongoing reconstructive work to maintain the teeth as long as possible. Sadly that began to fail and we began to lose the battle about 6 years ago. I was referred to an excellent prosthodontist and oral surgeon, and over a period of about 4 years had all my teeth extracted, implants placed and finally permanent upper and lower bridges to restore my smile, my mouth, my bite, to remove the possibility of loose teeth and to retard as far as possible infections arising from my gums. My amazing specialist did all this and i had only 1 day "without teeth" which was my challenge to him. I no longer have any bleeding gums or invasive dental work. I understand completerly this is not a financial option for many people. It is very expensive and may not be an oprion for you. IF it is, and you have specialists you trust than it is a very good option to consider. Dont be scared of the process. I was and it was no worse at all than the constant dental work i had for 30 years, and now that is finished. For me it was a matter of "eye on the prize". Good luck. If you cant afford this i hope your denatist can provide an excellent alternative as loose teeth and bad gums affect your nutrition and overall health.

Hi Jennifer, thank you for getting to me... so you have no problem with the implants? I heard that the gums continue to recede & that the implants can become exposed, thus paying all this money & you have to go with false in the end... I just hate to have it done only to going to false in the end, but I just do not know if I can deal with false... I can no longer eat corn on the Cob because the bottom 4 teeth in the front bend back causing pain... thanks 😊

Just to butt in on this one, brenwag, I don't think many people can eat corn on the cob!
SS has largely spared my salivary glands and therefore my teeth (preferring to snack on my tear glands, tendons, peripheral nerves, bronchial tubes etc.). However, I've never been able to eat corn on the cob, even in the days before SS had reared its ugly head. I used to try it when I was young, as I quite liked the taste, but my lower incisors would hurt for days afterwards. I suspect it's too much of a challenge for most people's teeth and is best avoided.

Hi lily,
i have always eaten corn on the Cob 😋😟my teeth are fine but it is my gums, the bottom have receded so far the 4 front teeth wiggle back & forth. This started about 5 mos ago... SS has destroyed my eyes, nose, mouth, ears, and organs as well as numerous other things...
