Skiing after THR

YES!

THR last June, and many many thanks for all the support I had here at that time, when I was worried and frightened.  Also for all the good information to help plan and recover. I have not been here for a while. I have been busy, back to work after 12 weeks and I have just moved house!

One of my big questions was could I Ski again, my surgeon said yes, the Physio said no. And lots of conflicting advice!

i needed to decide for myself and feeling so good booked a 3 hour family Ski session at a Snow Dome.

After a nervous start I was whizzing down at my old pace, luckily it was very quiet. I was so happy.

I know now it is a risk but our family Ski holidays have been precious times..... so now will hopefully be going at Xmas.

I felt so confident I even bought myself a new helmet in the sale.

I plan on taking extra care and stick to safer and quieter areas. My other hip has degenerative changes and is a bit sore tonight. However I feel I should just go ahead and do the things I love and when it finally crumbles, I will not hesitate to have it replaced.

Hopefully new and potential Hippies will see this as a positive story. I am so grateful to have had this surgery and the short term anxiety and post Op difficulties are far outweighed by the huge benefits.  I have my life back.

All the the very best to all of you... Kris. X

      Hi Amanda,

i rember it well, having no cartilage - I was exhausted with the pain.

The joint pain goes away immediately!  The muscles they cut through or stretch seem to take ages. So take it slowly, do your exercises religiously.

      It is truly worth it.

    Great news kris

I have wondered about skiing in the future perhaps a trip to snow dome may be the way but I'd be scared of falling on the hip.

The holiday will be something to look forward to

    Best wishes julie

Hi Kris, really pleased to hear about your skiing. You may remember me posting about skiing last Easter when I was about 9 months post op. My surgeon was ok about it, just told me to avoid bumps and black runs. I also bought some skiing body armour, just for a bit of extra protection. It was all fine, though my knees were pretty rubbish! I'll be going again in 2018 all being well.

I wish you happy skiing! Judith.
