Skin around thumbs (warning it’s gross)

it started as a small scab on my left thumb and has only gotten worse over the years . now my right thumb is bad too. ive had a bad habit of cutting off the nasty white dead skin each time it grows back, which has definitely made it worse. my nail is even coming up from my skin on the sides of my left thumb. this is such a small thing on me but it is my biggest insecurity, and i want to finally fix this. also, what kind of doctor would i go to about this issue,? i figured a dermatologist would be who to go to but im not for certain and dont want to waste money if they cant help. thank you. imageimageimageimage

It looks like it could be a fungal nail infection. Show your local pharmacist and ask their opinion, you can get some nail lacquer and take some antifungal tablets if this is what it is.

Agree with Moon...it looks like a fungal infection that has spread under your nail. You can get antifungal treatments from the pharmacy but sometimes it can take a long time...years possibly, before you find the right treatment. So you could be spending a lot of money on products that dont help much. A dermatologist is the correct doctor to see.Yes,there is medication you can take by mouth but the side effects are not always very nice and you have to take it for several months, its not an instant cure.Dont know where you are but in UK you cant buy the oral medication, that can only be prescribed.
