skin blisters

Hey folks - so ive been on Effexor XR for awhile - also taking a back pain medication (as needed) by same Dr. So ive been getting these "bite marks" for a month or two now - been to Dr and Hospital twice as they said it was spider bites, then cellulitus etc., ..... thinking it was a issue from the back pain med and the effexor, i stopped taking the back meds and dealt with the pain.

Well - apparently that was not the issue. Three mornings ago - i woke up with a few new ones on my outer wrist. You can see in the pic, the one top right is an older one and the size that they get. They start off as itchy tiny red marks, then over the course of a day double in size, then form a sub surface white-ish mark in the middle (almost like a pimple) but then the next stage will be swelling around it and triple in size. Eventually oozing a bit - and becoming a tender area. They end up leaving little scars - which im not impressed with.

Drs have had me on antibiotics for cellulitus (still thinking its spider bites) - but, im almost 100% sure it is from the effexor. I have NEVER had these things happen until i started taking the med.

Two days ago - i stopped taking the meds - my Dr unfortunately is on vacation this week - i will let you know how the "cold turkey" stoppage goes. So far - all ive noticed is some crazy weird dreams - BUT i am sleeping better in bewteen dreams than when i was taking Effexor. So far so good - anxiety and depression feel about the same - maybe more mixed emotion feelings throughout the day....temper is controlled still, so thats good. Anyone else getting red blistering?

Hi, Yes a skin rash is a rare side effect of Effexor. Add it with NSAIDS or Tramadol you get double chance at the effect.

My suggestion would be to ask for a Psychiatrist to review as they are the people who know this medication the best. Cold turkey is very hard to manage with Effexor.

    Cheers Linda
