Skin care for rosacea

Posted , 5 users are following.

I am 55 and only just been diagnosed with rosacea - I was diagnosed with blepharitis and dry eye last year but the rosacea hadn't presented itself then.  It is quite severe, flushing and redness for hours at a time.  I have some very tiny pustules appearing.

I'm confused over skin care.  I don't wear makeup but believe I can't use conventional soaps and creams.  Can anyone suggest what soaps/cleansers I can use?  Also, sun screen?   What products do others use?

I was diagnosed with Rosacea about 2 years ago (very red face, but what was worse was contsant red nose and big yellow spots on the nose). I was given a course of mild antibiotics which controlled the Rosacea well but which gave me severe IBS problems (and when I stopped the anitbiotics the Rosacea came back immediately). I tried different diets eventually only eating fish (and vegetables). Nothing worked until I turned to a 100% plant based diet (although honestly I still crack about once a month with a cake or even meat). So no animal protein even fish and no diary especially. Since then the redness has cleared up and no more spots (or antibiotics).  (Incidentially I water fasted for 3 days and it got rid of the IBS but t hat's another story). Anyway, I recommend trying going vegan for 2 weeks just to see. I hope this is helpful and good luck to you.

Thank you Francis for replying with your story.   Reallly interesting.   I have been strict vegetarian for 25 years so no meat/fish anyway.   I have put myself on a very strict diet for the last couple of weeks - no dairy, wheat, fruit.   I have also been on probiotics for 1 week and to be honest I feel the latter have had more of an affect.    My rosacea is very severe, very red cheeks, nose and even ears.    I also have blepharitis and dry eye which complicates things.   The rosacea aggrivates these conditions.   So I am trying anything I can to try to control this condition.  Would love to hear how you are getting on in the future.   Good luck to you too.

    hello Tish,

I know its' terrible! It really destroys your confidence. In my case, my job is very client facing so it was a big worry for me (big red spotty nose) and I was getting very depressed and paranoid about it. I tried a lot of things (like everyone), I was even in china and brought back several kilos of Chinese medicine (which didn't work). I read "the China study" by a guy called campbell which seems very based on scientific reseach (not "hippy") and that convinced me to try the vegan thing. As far as I can see from this reseach, being vegetarian and eating dairy is not much different from eating meat as far as how your body reacts (of course very different from a moral point of view). Being desperate I tried it and it worked for me...  also what was a plus was that I coud keep drinking alcohol when I wanted. Also I eat plenty of fruits. Anyway it worked for me, maybe I was lucky... but I know  that every time I have a couple of days eating or drinking "badly" I can be sure of a big red spotty nose. At least that keeps me on track .... overall Rosacea was probably positive for me! I lost 8 kilos without trying and am now eating vey heathy. Let me know how your diet works out. I'm interetsed if it's only me the vegan thing worked for.

I am 46 and just began getting rosacea. I also do not where makeup. I have found that hydrocodozone will clear it up fairly quickly. Hope this is helpful for you!
