Skin condition on penis glans, please help

Hello. First of all I would like to say that asking online is a last resort and I hope you'll be able to help me with this.

Everything began about 6 months ago, I had unprotected sex (never again) and a few days later I had discharge coming out of my penis along with a burning sensation. I got tested for STDs and everything came back negative, but I insisted that the doctor should give me a treatment for gonorrhea because I had it once before and the symptoms were exactly the same. After taking the antibiotic treatment I felt better and the discharge stopped, However a few days later I started having a burning sensation when I pee, so I got tested once again for STDs and did a urine culture as well- both came back negative. I avoided all sexual activity and drank a lot of water and eventually the undiagnosed UTI has stopped.

A week or two after that (I still abstained all sexual activity at that time) those ring-shaped wounds began showing up on my penis glans and some on the penis itself as well. I went to the doctor, she told me it was an immune-system reaction and that its source is unknown. She prescribed me a 1% Clotrimazole 1% Hydrocortisone Acetate cream for two weeks, I followed the instructions and the cream did absolutely nothing.

I went to another doctor who prescribed a Nystatin,Neomycin,Gramicidin,Triamcinolone acetonide combo cream and I used it for two weeks as well, this time it got the work done and the condition seemed to be gone. However a few days later it came back. I didn't want to continue using any more steroid creams so I didn't.

I feel hopeless. It's not an easy task to schedule an appointment to a dermatologist, especially when you work all week. I'm not sexually active since it all started because I am both ashamed and don't want to infect others. I just want it to go away.

From a short google search I think I have some sort of Balanitis, I hope you guys will have a better insight about what this might be and how to treat it effectively... I appreciate your time for reading this!

    Aiden962,

so first thing is that i am 100% sure i have the same condition as you, the photos you have posted look exactly like what i have.

there are many other guys who seem to have the same thing posting on here, but of all of them yours are the photos that i can say with certianty resemble the exact same condition as me.

so.....first thing is i feel your struggle and i can sympathise and i understand the distress.

i will share what i can with you after dealing with this for a year and spending a massive amount of time researching and experimenting, trying to solve this.

i ask humbly that you can share with me on this thread or via private message anything that works for you, any progress you make and any important update, as someone in the exact same boat as you i would really apreciate that.

    so...

    what is it?

i am almost 100% sure it is Lichen Planus, specifically annular lichen planus.

it is considered auto immune, considered non contagious and not an sti.

so feel free to read my previous posts, i will give the most important things that i have discovered and that i am using and experimenting with.

i have been using clobestarol steroid cream, i spent almost a year avoiding using it, but it does seem to be somewhat effective yet it is dangerous stuff and it has not got rid of the issue.

very importantly i started to use oils to nourish the skin and avoid all shampoo/shower gel down there, only product for excema skin and water.

of the 20 or so oils i have tried, i like borage oil best, but there are others. i apply daily.

i find baths with dead sea salts to be helpful, i have just made a cream that i am experimenting with from today which contains dead sea salts.

i will update if i have success with this.

check vit D levels and consider taking high dose of vit d. i am experimenting with a high dose at the moment.

purslane is considered helpful. dried herb as a tea.

make sure you have good intake of omega oils.

if you can access healing hot springs then go.

dead sea, and dead sea salts. some find borax bathing good.

    healthy diet/lifestyle.

not only your symptoms, but your story sounds alot like mine except it was many many years later after the balantis, before i noticed the skin changes. however it was a few months after having a new sexual partner.

if you can share some more details of the context of this condition appearing it would be much apreciated.

can i ask your age? usually peole get this is mid 30's.

so the good news is that it looks like it is not an std, not contagious and that it can get better, and there is the hope that it goes in to remission and stays away but it might be a long process.

bad news is that the treatment does not cure it and it can be a bit hit or miss how people do with the condition and treatment.

    stay in touch.

    all the best

      Hey man,

I've looked at the photos you posted and it does look exactly the same as mine. Before I applied the steroid creams it looked like a pinkish patch, sometimes shiny, sometimes dry and flaky. When the inflammation was gone its shape was clearer, a ring-like shape almost the same color as my normal skin.

Skin diseases can be easily misdiagnosed because many of them look almost the same; on that note, I don't think it's Lichen Planus. It looks different from pictures I saw on google, and also symptoms say LP is itchy and honestly mine never itched not even a bit.

As for your question, I am 25 yo, very healthy, working out and very hygienic. I never used hard soaps or anything so I doubt that's the reason for it.

A few months back I thought it was some fungal infection so I tried mixing a few drops of tea tree oil with coconut oil as a carrier, it didn't make it go away but I found coconut oil to be very effective as a natural solution to hydrating the place; no more dry flaky skin since then.

thanks for the reply and sharing the info,

not trying to push a diagnosis, in fact if it turns out not to be LP and something fungal that would be good, but LP from my understanding is usualy not itchy at all on genitals, but can be itchy on other parts of the body.

i have not had any itching.

there are different forms of LP, it can appear in different forms/shapes, annular is one of them. for me it gave a mix of skin symptoms.

everything you described, the pink patch, the flaky skin, the shiny skin, the ring shape...i have had the exact same symptoms.

but yes you are right, it may never get properly diagnosed...and i would personally stay away from a biopsy.

but to me, what you have, looks like and sounds like what i have and after a year of intensive research i am quite certain of this diagnosis.

but ovcourse i am not a clinical expert and i would be very happy to find out if it is something else.

i want to add to the list of things to consider: there have been studies to show pure aloe vera gel (not the cheap stuff) to be effective in treating it. so i will be introducing that more in to my treatment plan.

also just to add that this did freak me out and it did get worse at one point, but since my daily application of oils, dead sea baths proper washing without harsh soaps etc apart from the one patch that often looks slightly inflamed there are no development of symptoms and it had been in the same state not getting any worse for the last 6 months. if anything getting better and general skin health of penis has improved alot.

      all the best.

I definitely agree on aloe vera gel, it helped me a lot as well.

I read a little bit more about LP and it might just be it.

Honestly now it looks much better than it did a while back, and I too prefer to avoid steroids; I've had a bad experience with those like 5 years ago when I was misdiagnosed and the doctor prescribed harsh steroids which only made things worse.

Thank you for your comments, I will update if anything changes.
