I've had this rash/patch for quite sometime and it hasn't gone. Haven't really seen anything similar.
Only located on chest and back.
Slightly darker than skin but goes red after shower
Rash :-

On first glance it looks like a mild case of tinea versicolor, yeast overgrowth.
Your skin is pale and in these cases the patches can be darker than the skin, whereas in darker skin they tend to be lighter than skin colour. The yeast overgrowth is nothing to worry about and usually occurs in hot and humid environments or among people who sweat more. It is not contagious to others but can sometimes slowly spread to cover larger areas of your skin if left untreated. Mine was much like yours and never did spread much.
I left it untreated for years and finally decided to treat it when the small patch turned to two sets of larger patches.
However, to be sure: did it start out as a single patch, then multiplied slowly over time?
Was it ever red and do the edges ever seem raised?
Does it itch at all and if you closely inspect it is it scaly?
Did it ever look like it was oozing or crusting over?
Do you have a cat or a dog?
How long ago did you first notice it?
There are a few differentials with these kind of patches - e.g. ringworm and certain other conditions.
A good dermatologist will be able to confirm either way.
I am treating mine with LAMISIL cream (terbinafine) once a day for 4 weeks. I am on week 3 and the patches are gone but i have to follow up and continue until the end to discourage a recurrence. Likelihood of recurrence is however high.

Ok, sounds like versicolor. You should however get a dermatologist's opinion if possible (they can take a scraping and/or view the lesion under a blue/wood lamp). If it were ringworm it would behave differently and spread more rapidly. If it was bacterial there would be oozing by now. The fact that it came on in the summer is also a good indicator that it is yeast.
This is typically treated with ketconazole or terbinafine cream for 2-4 weeks. If the patches do not disappear by 4 weeks a doctor must reassess. There are other natural therapies best used as prevention. I opted to treat it medically and will then look into natural ways of discouraging recurrence. I live in a hot and humid climate and suspect it will be tough to keep under control but luckily mine was very mild. Looks exactly like yours, while my second patch is 3 small patches that joined to form one bigger one slowly over a course of about 2 years.
