skin reaction to valtrex??

hey guys!

so i had my first outbreak of hsv 1 genitally four weeks ago, and took Valtrex for my perscribed ten days. About half way through, i started to have a small swelling on my arm that soon turned in to a small cluster of irritated looking rash. my boyfriend had poison oak at the time and i was exposed to it as well, and figured i was just catching it for the first time. theres now spots on my legs and arms and stomach and chest, really itchy and red. minimally oozey but still a little bit.

i went to the doctor today for poison oak and she took one look and doubted my self-diagnosis but perscribed me a steroid cream that should clear it up regardless of the cause.

just wondering if anyone has had a reaction like this to Valtrex...

i read on the side effects that skin rash is listed but wanted some personal experiences. thanks guys!

Can you post a picture? You should have them swabbed to be on the safe aide.

I can tell you my first month and a few after exposure, I was breaking out in what looked like tiny blood blisters, but only on the top of my forearms, hands, fingers, shins, thighs and top of feet. When they subsided some, I'd miss a pill and they'd pop right back up. Hat told me it wasn't the meds, but more of my body freaking out to a new infection and having an I flammation response. Did you see a GP or gyno?

I can post a picture once I'm home in a few hours, but they're little oily blisters that are really itchy. I've been exposed to poison oak but for some reason it's just not convincing enough for me. I saw a GP for both my HSV1 diagnosis/culture test and then again for the contact dermatitis diagnosis today. I've always had sensitive skin so it wouldn't be a surprise to me if my body is just having a hard time balancing itself. did your doctor prescribe a topical solution or just have time wait it out? has it recurred for you?

Well did she suggest what she thought the rash was?

I just let rode it out... Mine only slightly itched when they first popped, but they weren't blisters like on the surface of my skin, it was just a bright red dot under the skin and was raised a little. If I squeezed it, blood would come out. I believe it was small vessel vasculitis, which can happen from medications or an infection and your body freaking out w inflammation...

It's been awhile... I've had maybe a couple pop up like months ago... The first 3 months after infection, it was pretty regular, especially if I missed a pill.

yeah mine are raised and originally skin colored then red then like oily. she said it looked like "well something has definitely irritated your skin whether that be allergy, medication reaction, or oak". the steroid cream she prescribed should clear up anything it could be but its just all new to me still!

my boyfriend has had poison oak countless times and my bumps are definitely different than the rash he gets.

the center of the rash on my arm with the hair tie is where the rash originally began, and spread outwardly from there.

I've never had poison oak, but I've had poison ivy and that's exactly what it looks like to me. That does not look heroes related at all.

It also looks like you've scratched yourself, so I bet you're spreading it.

Apply calamine lotion to it, wash your hands vigorously after touching it and stop scratching.

I have suddenly itched on my hips and had some red bumps and on the front of my left shin and lower left back and I know heroes caused it... Like I itched so bad, I broke skin. It's happened in the same.e locations more than once now, but it doesn't look like that. If you google poision oak pics, you will find others that look like yours.

Yeah... don't scratch it. Apply some ointment to keep it from getting dry. It could or could not be related to the OB. However, I also got a raised rashed that looked nasty when I first had an OB and my OBGYN looked at it like she had no idea what it was. Mine did last a bit after the OB subsided. I figured it was related to the OB because I never had such a thing before. Keep your hands washed and clean at all times.

when i had my first OB i developed a raised rash on a new tattoo that itched. it was red and looked gross. i just put some A&D oitment on it and after my OB began going away, so did the rash.
