Skipped heart beats

Hi I have been looking everywhere to find a forum to have a chat with people who might be suffering from the same feelings I’m having for the past 12 days. It’s a long story but for the past 12 days I have started to feel my heart skip beats on a regular basis. They can last anywhere between 5mins to over an hour I went to the hospital and the took my bloods and put me on an ECG machine and everything came back fine, but these keep happening, I have my good days and bad but every day I have some episodes. What the doctor told me should be reassuring, but I can’t stop thinking about it and wonder if there is an underlying problem. I lost my job not long ago and since then it’s really starting to kick in more, and it doesn’t help that I’m sitting about the house doing nothing it just seems to make it worse. I’m I suffering from Anxiety? I really don’t know. I know this is long but can anyone reassure me that everything is ok?

Most ectopic beats are harmless and worrying about them can bring them on.

Best videos to watch to reassure yourself are made by Dr Sanjay Gupta of York Cardiology. Just do a search.

I had the same problem for two years in that my ectopic beats never co-incided with the NHS tests, so I bought my own hand held ECG machine, that way I could record the events when they were happening. A Prince 180B.

Anxiety doesn’t help , I think I have had occasional extra beats for a while but recently got worse , had knee surgery , sitting around feeling anxious , on strong pain meds . Trouble is an ecg takes seconds and misses skipped beats , ask for a Holter for 24 hours to monitor them . I had one and was getting way too many that’s why I was feeling weird . You may be okay and it will put your mind at rest .

Hey guys thanks for the reply, and im glad to say the skipped beats have been away for about 3 weeks now, but i have started getting weird feelings like burning sensations on my hands and feet when i go out walking, and twitches all over my body. I know this is not all in my head because when i come back and undress i can see my hands all red and almost purple same with my feet and even recently when i go running my knees turn the same colour. I have a doctors appointment again on the 26th this month so fingers crossed im ok

Your heart beat doesnt go up a lot when you stand up does it? Burning and purple feet are a symptom of Dysautonomia.

Hey Peter I tend to stay away from checking my heartbeat because it just messes with my mind. I’m able to run a good 10k jog and I don’t really get out of breathe or have bad dizzy spells. So I really don’t think it’s to do with my heart. Plus I got bloods done a few weeks back and they said my heart was fit and healthy. I know something must be wrong with my body though because there is no way my hands, feet and knees should turn colour that dramatically
