Skipping heartbeats

Hi ladies please can anyone reassure me? I have been having heart palpitations for nearly more than a year now and am worrying myself to a frenzy. I get Skip beats , very difficult to describe it. Kind of someone beating drum in center. That moment I have to forcibly cough. then I check my pulse, there will be few skip beats. initially it was once in few months but now I get often.

Is it peri symptoms? No pain or anything else just a little fluttering now and again. Occasionally i get really hot after a flutter too so maybe its linked? My ECG is normal. I am hypothyroid too. Iam 49. My peri started at 41.

Hello lovely! Can relate, same here! I think they are perfectly normal, due to fluctuating hormones, but if you are at all concerned, best to be safe and have a chat with a health care professional! Keep me posted! x

    Hi Bindisid,

Yes I've been getting these on and off and more regularly recently. You have described it exactly how it feels even to the cough, I get this weird sensation in my throat where I feel like I can't get my breath for a split second and need to cough. I'm 47 and think I've been perimenopausal for nearly two years. It is rubbish. I get all sorts of weird things going on. The heartbeat thing, I won't get for a week or so and then, bang, I get it again and then sometimes a few times a day. I am still regular, although my periods are quite light (only 1-2 days heavy) and closer together than they used to be. I need to try and chart these skips to see if they have a pattern linked to my cycle.

    take care x

I have had heart palpitations all the way through 6yrs of perimenopause so much so I went to see a heart consultant, ECG normal, have an ectopic heart beat which is nothing to worry about (feel like someone punching you in the sternum now and again!) which seemed to come on at the start of the perimenopause and I had random heart palpitations possible linked to my hormone cycle but now I am fully without periods but I have palpitations every day most likely the body is adjusting to the new normal!! I just have to stop and breathe and calm the heart down. I don't want to cough though just seem to gulp for air.

hi. I'm new to this forum, I found it after doing some research for menopause. I can totally relate to this. I started having palpitations about 4 years go along with breathlessness. I went to doctor & he sent me straight to a&e. I had ECG which was normal. chest x-rays & blood tests. everything was normal except my iron levels were very low & I was anaemic, possibly due to heavy periods. the doctor put me on the mini pill to calm my periods but I'm still having palpitations. I'm 51. it's apparently quite common with the menopause but I didn't connect the two until I read this forum. so thank you, it all makes sense now 😊
