    Hi,

I had labrum repair along with repair of rotator cuff on both my shoulders. It hurt, it was weak, and I had to wear a sling for 3-4 weeks. I think everyone has pain, and you are only 4 days post-op.

One of the things that helped me was an ice machine...I pretty much kept it on and attached to my shoulder all day and night. It numbed my shoulder, so I was beyond pain. They should give you one or told you about it.

You characterized your pain as 'severe' and didn't mention if you were taking pain meds or using ice. My pain certainly would have been severe without meds or ice. So I'm not sure what your particular situation is. If you are having severe pain even after use of pain meds and ice, that is a concern and you should talk to your doctor.

Hang in there, it will hopefully get better.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you can expect a lot of pain for at least the first couple of weeks even when at rest or with only slight movements. Ive had quite a few operations on different joints over the years and nothing came close to the pain of shoulder surgery. It was horrible. I developed frozen shoulder and 15 months and 3 hydrodilatations later im still in a bit of pain and feel the surgery made it worse. I had an ac joint resection and a decompression done along with the slap repair so not sure what part of the surgery caused the most pain but i think any arthroscopy of the shoulder hurts like hell. I would say follow all post surgery advice, take whatever pain killers you need to get by, and when you start your physio be sure to follow all strength and movement building exercises to give yourself the best chance at a great outcome
