Sleep

Hi all. I don't suffer this condition too often fortunately. But last night it happened again. Just at the point of falling asleep, I suffered a panic attack. It lasted around 5 seconds with tightness in throat, hard to swallow effort. Than I waited to go to sleep again but the attack happened again and a 3rd time also. Eventually I must have fallen asleep but can't remember that. A nasty business. But I feel OK this morning. In general I think I'm a nervy kind of chap but luckily don't get this too often. I go to bed around 12.00 midnight which I'm going to change back to 11.00. Any info most welcome. Cheers Kevin..

I experience the same thing often I feel in my case this will occur at the moment just before sleep when the muscles relax and my tongue falls to the back of my airway blocking air This sets of the Fight or Flight Mechanism. I could go on but here is what helps me. First alcohol is a factor. Second is too much food in the evening. Stress and worry would be third.

I have found drinking more water helps to keep hydrated I am a snorer but do not wear a mask. I am having a sleep study done soon. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dennis. Some people advised to get up out of and let the brain realign itself. I don't drink alcohol myself or smoke but I am insulin dependent diabetic. Don't think it's stress. I had a seizure in 2013. It happened in the morning time when I was up and around the house. Didn't happen before. Hasn't happened again.. I think going to bed earlier could help as the brain knows it's getting more time to rest and feels better about that.. Cheers Kevin...
