Sleep apnea not sure?

Hi

I’ve not felt great the last couple of months. On and off I have had problems with sleeping at night. Even after a short period I wake and feel like I can’t breathe. I kind of feel a bit anxious when I wake but also at times my heart racing.

I suffer with costochrondritis and get rib pain with it, but also suffer with reflux and IBS Hopefully not too serious but enough to monitor. I am worried now that the shortness of breath (which only lasts few seconds) could be connected with my lungs as my ribs hurt so much 😦 with the reflux I do get bit of excess mucus back of throat and tickle cough but cannot imagine that stopping me breathing for few seconds?

another possibility could be sleep apnea after Googling my symptoms!! How can you be sure if it is definitely that. It does come and go. I have googled too much going from costochrondritis with my ribs, reflux which also can cause pain in ribs and now sleep apnea with the breathing 😦 I know I’m probably overthinking but same time cannot be ignored.

Can anyone give me any advice/info on this and the expectations of living with it. It is really scary 😦

it definitely sounds like sleep apnea-I have the same problem. first of all, take a deep breath- if thats what it is, there are several treatment options! contact your primary to be referred to a sleep specialist as you'll need a sleep study to confirm. if you do indeed have apnea, they'll usually set you up with a cpap first as that's the cheapest for the insurance company. I wasn't able to tolerate my cpap so I now have an oral appliance, but I know several people that absolutely love their cpap. and that's really it....its honestly no big deal so long as you get it treated. call your doctor! 🙂
