Sleep Apnoea?

Hi,

Could anybody please tell me if this sounds like sleep apnoea. It is one of the side effects of medication I've been taking for around 4 years and since starting me sleep quality has been poor. I have been to my GP who gave me a very short questionnaire to complete (around 5 questions). The questions were all based around falling asleep during the day and he was pretty dismissive of the choking during the night.

I have been struggling with the following,

Waking around 5-10 minutes after falling asleep - jerking and a feeling of swallowing my tongue which causes choking. This can be laid in bed or even sat asleep in a chair to some extent.

Very loud snoring which only started after taking this medication

Tossing and turning a lot during the night

Occasional sweating 2/3 episodes a year

Waking with a very dry throat

The GP stated because I wasn't falling asleep at work or whilst driving that Sleep apnoea is very unlikely but i'm not convinced, I am finding it harder and harder to get out of bed in a morning and it's starting to have an affect on my partner.

Thanks for your help

Hi some of your symptoms sound like mine only im not on any kind of meds. Mine usually happens a few min after i fall asleep and like you i wake up and its hard to swallow i have to sit up a few times a night this happens in the beginning of my sleep. Im thinking apnea as well and i am going to see my doc but like you i do not fall asleep during the day. I do not snore as per my husband. This is pretty new to me as well and scary.
