Sleep back but still fatigued

Hi all,
I'm 27 and I've had insomnia since February (stress and work related) and surviving on an average of 4 hours a night. I was very very sleep deprived - my cognitive function was low as was my mood! I tried everything from relaxtion, meditation, sleep hygiene and nothing worked to start. Now I have started taking a magnesium and calcium supplement and it has basically cured my sleeping problems. I sleep for 7-8 hours a night with waking only once and with that I fall straight back asleep. My question is: Would the body go through a re-adjustment period? I've only had 4 nights of this amazing sleep but I feel jetlagged. Not like hungover as one would be with sleeping tablets but just like I haven't gotten enough sleep. Would my body have just got used to this 4 hours a night and now adjusting to such a peaceful sleep?

Your sleep patern seems to be not that bad, if you have come from a time of none sleep give it time you need not consider that better situation.
When it comes to sleep, many people can have different needs so what suits one may not suit another.
If you feel like jetlagged give yourself more time for the body to dictate how much sleep it needs

It's perfectly normal to feel worse in the immediate aftermath of a few good night's sleep at the end of a period of insomnia. Your body will soon re-adjust to sleeping well again.

Thanks for your reply. I hope so I have been researching the magnesium supplementation and one can feel fatigued if they supplement with too much too soon. I'm going to half my dose and see how it goes.

Hi Michelle14134,
I've been suffering like this since February. I'm currently finishing my PhD and therefore was extrmemely stressed and my sleep went haywire followed by all of the other things like cognitive function, getting colds, irritible, moody, depressed feeling etc. etc. It was so strange for me because I'm such a happy person all the time. I think it is my adrenal glands that are fatigued so I'm tending to nourish those now and hopefully it will help. I'm unsure what your situation is but look up magnesium deficiency. There's a wealth of knowledge on the internet about it and I'm sure this is what happened me (I got tested and was low in magnesium). Magnesium:calcium has been really good to relax me and make me sleep and has lifted my mood but check with your doctor first. I think I may be supplementing with too much and this is why I'm fatigued so I'm going to half my dose and see how that goes.
