Sleep pattern problem

Hell for the past few weeks I've got into the habit of staying up all night and now my body clock only allows me to go to bed at 7 or 8 in the morning. Unless I set my alarm clock for a more acceptable time (which is sometimes unsuccessful anyway as I sometimes go back to sleep due to severe tiredness) I'm getting up at around 5-7pm.

I think you'll all agree that this is a horrendous body clock pattern. What should I do to break this cycle and go to bed and sleep through the night rather than the day? I'm still awake now, I haven't gone to bed. I'm not sure whether to go to bed as soon as possible and set my alarm clock for 1 or 2 pm or just wait it out and go to bed at like 5 or 6pm and risk becoming ill the morning after. Which option do you think I should choose?

The best thing to do is to stay up all night AND all the next day - that is, try to stay awake for a full 24 hours. You will be so tired that you will probably fall asleep quite quickly. Hopefully you will then stay asleep till morning, and this will re-jig your body clock to a more normal pattern.

You probably won't feel great for a few days, but you won't actually get sick. It will feel a little like jet lag, but that won't kill you! Maybe try starting on a Friday so you have the weekend to get adjusted if you're worried about not functioning too well at work, but I'm guessing you don't have a regular job anyway or you would never have been able to get into this bad habit.

Hi I've had this a few times and I agree with Teresa.

Stay up all night and the next day then go to bed at 10 or 11 o'clock make sure you set an alarm for the following morning.

Try and stick with it then and always get up when your alarm goes off even if you didn't sleep well.

It won't hurt but you will feel a bit dazed staying up all night.

It's best to try after that to not hey into the same predicament again by always getting up (I know it's easier said than done) I usually get someone to make sure I am up an hour after my alarm or failing that get someone to phone you.

Hi I went to bed at around 7:30 but I've woken up early at 12:35am. Do you reckon I should stay up or go back to bed? Bare in mind its 3am and I've been up for 2 and a half hours.

If you can. I went to sleep at midnight. Got up 330 am. It's now 4 am. I will try to go back to sleep but if I'm still awake at 5 am I will get up then an stay up until 11pm.

Sometimes it works well I get more sleep at the right time by doing this.
